What is a resource?
Resource-something that people use
2 Kinds
Renewable
Nonrenewable
Resources that can be replaced within a reasonably short period of time.
Nonrenewable resources cannot ever be replaced. Ever.
So how do we make sure we don't use up all of our resources?
3 Ways-3 R's
Reuse
Reduce
use less of the resource
use the resource again
new materials are made from old ones

Recycle
Coal
Fossil fuels-plant and animal remains that turn into fossils then turn into coal, oil, and natural gas
Natural Gas
Oil
One way to make sure we make resources last longer is by reducing the amount of stuff we use.

We can avoid buying products with a lot of packaging.

We can also use cloth bags when we go to the grocery store instead of using the plastic bags the stores use.
We can also reuse products so new ones don't have to be made.
We can reuse water bottles when they are empty by refilling them.
We can also take old clothes to Goodwill so other people can wear the clothes again.
The last way to make our resources last longer is to recycle the products we have into new products.

We can recycle:
aluminum cans
glass
paper
How do we use these resources in our everyday lives?
These resources are used for the energy we consume.
