The form of government that existed under the tsars. All power, whether political, military or religious, ultimately lay n the hands of the tsar. Tsar Nicholas II steadfastly tried to retain his
autocratic
power in the years before 1917.

divine right

appointed to rule; to oppose the tsar was, in effect, to oppose the will of God.
