*2 hours to write three essays (rhetorical analysis, synthesis, and argument)
Beforehand, you are given
15 minutes of planning time.
suggested time for each essay is 40 minutes.
Read the prompt and the sources carefully.
Develop your position for a clear and organized argument
Choose 3 out of the 7 sources to use in your essay
Complete the synthesis essay first
Use the sources to your advantage for a strong essay.
Your essay will be scored on a scale of 0-9. This score will be 1/3 of your total exam score
*The sources are a variety of nonfiction
and fiction texts, and one visual source.
*You should have 2 sources to support
your position and one to refute a counter argument
*Remember to analyze the texts.*
You must cite your sources!!
You can use direct or indirect quotes when citing your source.
Direct- According to source B, "..."
Indirect - paraphrasing, but not listing ideas
Do not summarize the sources!

Step 2: Pause and write one sentence explaining the author's argument (if they make one)
Step 3: Make a note of which source they use (if any)
Repeat this process for each paragraph.
Report out your findings.

On the index card provided, write the steps for completing the synthesis essay and note the suggested times for each.
