LEONA FLORENTINO NAUNSYAMING PAG-ASA Born to a wealthy and prominent family in Vigan, Ilocos Sur, Florentino
began to write her first verses in Ilocano at a young age. Despite her
potential, she was not allowed to receive a university education because
of her gender. Florentino was instead tutored by her mother, and then a
series of private teachers. An educated Ilocano priest taught her advanced
Spanish and encouraged her to develop her voice in poetry.
- a Filipino poet in the Spanish and Ilocano languages. She is considered as the "mother of Philippine women's literature" and the "bridge from oral to literary tradition". Pupos ng ligaya't katiwasayan
Silang may minamahal,
Dahil mayroon silang karamay
Sa lahat ng hinaing sa buhay. Ako'y nagmamahal
Sa isang sintas hiyas
Ngunit hindi ko matiyak
Kung ako'y karapatdapat.
Ang aba kong kapalaran
Tila walang kapantay
Ang sinasabi ko'y isang katiyakan
Dahil ako ngayo'y nagdurusa.
LEONA FLORENTINO Those who are inlove are filled with happiness and peace because they have someone who they can run to when they feel sad. The person's humble destiny is like no other and he/she is sure because he/she is suffering. The person is loving someone he/she considers as a gem but he/she is not sure if he/she is worthy. Isinusumpa ko ang oras
Ng aking kapanganakan,
Libong ulit sanang higit na mainam
Kung namatay ako nang ako'y isinilang. The person is cursing the day he/she was born. He/she wished for a thousand times that he/died the day that he/she was born. Susubukan ko sanang magtapat
Ngunit ako'y nauumid,
Dahil maliwanag namang
Mabibigo lamang ako. The person wants to declare his/her love but he/she is tongue-tieed. For that person, it is clear that he/she would only fail. Ngunit sapat na ang ligayang madarama
Kung malaman mo ang aking pagsinta
Nangangako ako at sumusumpa
Ikaw lamang ang mamahalin hanggang kamatayan The happiness the author feels when he/she lets his/her special someone know that he/she is loved is enough. The author promises that he/she will only love that person until he/she dies. THE END.
