The Word Became Flesh
This Book was Born of Eyewitnesses
"Word became flesh and made His dwelling
among

us
.
We have seen
His glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
John testifies concerning Him.
He cries out, saying, "This was He of whom I said, 'He who comes after me has surpassed me because He was before me.' From the fullness of His grace
we have all received
one blessing after another."
John 1:14-16
His Love Is Unmeasurable
"The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. We have seen His glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth."
John 1:14
He is the Fixed Point of the Old Testament
"John testifies concerning him. He cries out, saying, 'This was he of whom I said, 'He who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.' From the fullness of his grace we have all received one blessing after another. For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ."
John 1:15-17
He is Brimming with Grace and Truth
"And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father,
full of grace and truth.

For of His fullness we have all received, and grace upon grace.
For the Law was given through Moses;
grace and truth were realized through Jesus Christ.
John 1:14, 16-17

"That which was from the beginning,
which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched--
this we proclaim concerning the Word of life. The life appeared;
we have seen it and testify to it,
and we proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and has
appeared to us.
We proclaim to you
what we have seen and heard,
so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son, Jesus Christ."
1 John 1:1-3
"The idea is as follows. There are various gods, none enjoying absolute dominion, but each with some power to make life easier or harder for you. Their temper is uniformly uncertain; they take offence at the smallest things—or they get jealous because they feel you are paying too much attention to other gods and other people and not enough to themselves, and then they take it out on you by manipulating circumstances to your hurt."
J.I. Packer
"But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, now crowned with glory and honor because He suffered death, so that by the grace of God He might taste death for everyone. …He had to be made like His brothers in every way, in order that He might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, and that He might make atonement for the sins of the people."
Hebrews 2:9, 17
"And from His fullness we have all received, grace
upon
["instead of", or "in place of"] grace."
John 1:16
"For the law was given [in the sense of gift] through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ."
John 1:17
"You diligently study the Scriptures because you think that by them you possess eternal life. These are the Scriptures that testify about Me...."
John 5:39
"If you believed Moses, you would believe Me, for he wrote about Me."
John 5:46
"Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the desert, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life."
John 3:14-15
"The [only] contrast is that Moses points to grace, but Jesus performs grace. Moses reports the words of God. Jesus is the Word of God. The Law mirrors the light of God. Jesus is the Light of God."
John Piper
His cross & exaltation
"Better is open rebuke than love that is concealed. Faithful are the wounds of a friend, but deceitful are the kisses of an enemy."
Proverbs 27:5-6
"Jesus looked at him and loved him. 'One thing you lack,' He said. 'Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow Me."
Mark 10:21
“The gospel says you are more sinful and flawed than you ever dared believe, but more accepted and loved than you ever dared hope.”
Tim Keller
He is the Clearest Picture of the Father
"No one has seen God at any time; the only begotten God
who is in the bosom of the Father,
He has explained Him."
John 1:18 (NASB)
“...the Narration of God...”
D.A. Carson
