75% of teens say texting while driving is common among their friends

COMMITMENT = TAKE THE PLEDGE

Make a lifelong commitment never to text and drive

WHAT YOUR PLEDGE MEANS
That no text message, email, website or video is worth the risk of endangering my life or the lives of others on or off the road.

I pledge to never text and drive beginning immediately, and make the commitment to drive as responsibly as possible.

TIPS TO HELP YOU STAY TRUE TO YOUR PLEDGE

Use the bluetooth to call or pull over;

Put your phone away;

Designate a texter when you’re the driver;

Share our video on www.ciecka.com;

Don’t call or text someone that you know is driving;

If someone is texting while you’re the passenger, tell them to stop;

Never use your phone to take pict.,send, read a message, watch a video or record something while driving.

KEY FACTS
2010 in NJ 3092 people were killed in crashes involving distracted drivers and an estimated additional 416,000 were injured

TEEN DRIVERS are most likely than any other age group to be involved in a FATAL crash when distracted driving was involved

NJ has a ban on all cell phone use for all drivers (primary law)

Primary law = an officer can issue a ticket w/out an other violation

GET THE FACTS
Text messaging creates a crash risk 23X greater than driving undistracted.

Any use of a cell phone when driving delays a drivers reactions
as much as having a blood alcohol concentration at the legal limit of .08%.

Driving while using a cell phone REDUCES the amount of BRAIN ACTIVITY associated w/driving by 37%.

307,753 car accidents reported in 2012 were involved with drivers using cell phones and TEXTING.

Distracted driving is unsafe, irresponsible & in a split second, it’s consequences can be devastating.

TEXTING while driving is an epidemic, it’s “inTEXTicating”.

If a driver is proven to have been texting before an accident that seriously injures or kills someone, prosecutors will now have the ability to charge that person with assault by auto or vehicular homicide.

Three tragic traffic incidents have resulted in the loss of life, permanetly disabled people and caused untold grief for families.

Helen Kulesh was killed by a driver illegally using a cell phone and David and Linda Kubert both lost a leg in a similar circumstance.

Toni Bolis and her unborn son, Ryan Jefferey Bolis, died in a motor vehicle accident cause by a 21yr old man that was using a GPS while driving.
