How do we Challenge it?
What is Sexism?
Sexism is discrimination towards gender
There are many types of sexism but the most popular types are towards ...
Ways to prevent sexism
sexism against jobs
In the workplace
This type of sexism is also called Occupational Sexism." Refers to any discriminatory practices, statements, actions, etc. based on a person's sex that are present or occur in a place of employment"(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Occupational_sexism). This has been around since as long as women had joined the work force. Certain jobs had been given out specifically for women and men. Women had the more low status jobs while man obtained higher status jobs. Women are usually involved in jobs that are service work and have low skill requirements and less physical requirements. These jobs are part time. Men had the full times jobs and were paid more then women. Today in Canada they are still being paid more. Common jobs for women that 90% of people would say teachers, nurses, caregivers etc. for men it was lawyers, doctors, engineers pilots, police officers and fireman. People should be treated equally in the workplace and should be aloud to do whatever job they wish to. Also, be paid the same.
Sexism in sports today have a big impact in society. It influences people of all ages. For women men take it easy on them because they lack in physical strength. They are not treated equally as men. They tend to have lower salaries than men.it’s said to be unladylike for women to take part in certain sports. Sports such as tennis, golf, skating, and gymnastics, demonstrate the agility to women. This is where we notice women athletes the most. Women who choose to take part in different sports such as hockey or football may be stereotyped as a tomboy or lesbian. All though most stereotypes are targeted towards women there are some sexism towards men in sports.
For example, gymnastics, figure skating, ribbon and cheer leading is "considered
for women" but there are some men who do those sport. Sometimes they are
discriminated and called gay. These type of sports are looked upon differently because such sports are viewed as female dominated sports.
So the big question is that..
"ISMS" That Relate to Sexism
* Classism
*Hetero Sexism
But the

one that has a big affect on people is...
How does sexism have to do with the media?
1. The Barbie World
2. In Magazines
Sexism against
If we want to make a change then lets stop sexism!!!
POWERFUL ROLE MODLES that can drive us towards helping and standing up to what we think is right...
"Treat others the way you want to be treated".
This quote has a lot to say but only a few would understand. I believe everyone is equal it doesn't matter if your a female or a male, you both are capable of doing anything you want, if you put your best into it. Treating others with respect, will give you respect. It shouldn't matter where you come from, how old you are, or what your gendre is. We all believe in god dont we? Well he didn't seperate us, he made us all equal.

And anything to do with media, they tell you how the ideal look is for men and women or what they should look like
Media Examples
Celebrity Barbies
Britney Spears from her music video "Hit me Baby One More Time"
One Direction
Justin Bieber
Jennifer Lopez
- Human Beings! Not plastic dolls
- Why are they barbies? Even celebrities get influenced by the media, which influences them to get PLASTIC surgery to perfect their face. "If they have plastic on them well might as well be a plastic barbie doll".
- Role models for non famous people. People will follow them and Turn into plastic. For example Justin jedlica has literally turned himself into a ken barbie doll. He has a perfect body hand has huge biceps but without lifting a single weight
- If they are making the wrong choice it influences people who are not famous. Also young people will do anything to get that "perfect" face or figure that the media thinks what looks perfect.
It all started in March/2012 when my homeroom teacher told us to do research on a topic for Media. When I came home the first thing I did was go on...
How I first learned about Kony?
and then I saw that one of the top treads were "#Kony2012".
Joseph Kony
-has been kiddnapping children for 26 years
-making them a part of his rebel group "LRA - Lords Resistance Army"
-turning the girls into sex slaves, and the boys into child soilders
-he forces them to kill their own parents
-its not just a few children, its over 30,000 of them in Uganda,Africa.
There's a big influence of sexism in different cultures for example in the Islam religion you are allowed to have 4 wives legally. We personally have nothing against any religion or there customs, but I think its wrong to know that you already have a 'partner' that you vowed you'd be with forever and than you want to get remarried. WOW!
In India most females after marriage are supposed to be housewives. They have no choice about what they want to do in the future or anything. In some small villages, the females are not permitted to go to school, so your not allowed to get proper education only because your a girl? So basically to sum it all up, if you are a girl, all you need to know is how to cook clean and take care of you husband. In the Amish community it is also what you need to know. The girls only need to know house work That seems unfair.
No it is not only sexism when men are sexist! Even women are sexist. When you hear the word sexism, sometimes the first thing that pops up in your head is "why are men so sexist." But not all men are sexist. Think of how they feel when they hear theses stereo types which they are. The same way as us girls. Sexism: Girls are sexist too!
Culture fits into sexism, lookism and classism because when girls looks for guys they mostly want guys that are rich. At times they don't even care about how the guy looks. He can be a wealthy old man and they would still marry him. But guys look for different things in a girl, they want girls that are smart, beautiful. And when I say beautiful I don't mean personality wise, they want a girl that looks like Barbie.
"Boys, if you dont look like Calvin Klein models, dont expect girls to look like Victoria's Secret Angels" - Twitter
"Treat her right when you have her or someone else will." -Drake
"You have every right to a beautiful life" -Selena Gomez
"You can fall in love at any age whether its 80 or 5." -Justin Bieber
"I dont mind if my irl is big or small. If she's skinny I would be able to pick her up. If she's big I would just have Kenny pick her up." -Justin Bieber
"Beauty isn't about having a pretty face its about having a pretty mind, a pretty heart, and a pretty soul." -Drake
"Any guy who rejects a girl because he doesn't think she's pretty enough doesn't deserve a girl in the first place" -Twitter
"I think loving someone despite what people think is fearless." -Taylor Swift
"I may not be perfect but I'm always me." -Selena Gomez
"Sometimes people are beautiful. Not in looks, not in what they say. Just in what they are." - Twitter
