Action Verbs Action verbs are usually the most acknowledged verbs used in phrases. They are the verbs that express the most physical or obvious action done in a situation.
(i.e. write, dance, fly, swim, etc.) Identifying Action Verbs I am an artist who paints for a living
There was a fire this morning but the firemen extinguished the flames
The snow is melting so it must be warm outside Corrections The snowstorm forced canadians to shovel their driveways.
Nadia dived into the cold water, causing her to shiver.

You may have thought that all verbs were simply just actions. To expand, a verb is a word referred to an action, state, or occurrence, that forms the main part of the predicate of a sentence.
...Then what exactly is an action verb? These are some examples. All the marked words represent verbs. The verbs highlighted in yellow represent action verbs. The verbs underlined in red represent other types of verbs, such as helping verbs and linking verbs. The snowstorm forced canadians to shovel their driveways.
