What is terrorism?

Current ISIS Control
Hoffman, Bruce. (1998) Inside Terrorism. Retrieved from
Hoffman believes terroism has several common traits.
-Terrorism is inevitably violent, or uses valid threats of violence
-Terrorism has political aims.
-Terrorism has psychological reprocussions larger than the small group targeted.
-Terrorist organizations tend to have a decentralized organization.
-Terrorist organizations do not have a state. Their claims to government control over a landmass is not
recognized by any other international bodies.
What are their goals?
-Establish a Caliphate
By calling themselves a Caliphate they are calling all muslims to support their conflict.
-Return to an earlier state of Islam under older rules, what they believe to be Muhhammad and the Quran's message.
