Working with aspect ratios

This support page is about Prezi Classic. If you’re looking for help with Prezi Next, please click here.

Some projectors and screens have a 4:3 ratio and others a 16:9 ratio. When presenting your prezi, you’ll need to know exactly what it will look like on the screen you are presenting on. With Prezi Classic, you can set a guide to your canvas that shows you the exact dimensions to work to for each common aspect ratio. Check out this video to learn more about aspect ratios.

Changing the aspect ratio:

In “Edit” Mode, click the cogwheel in the upper right corner of the screen. Select the ratio you wish to display your prezi in. You can also tap CTRL+SHIFT+M (COMMAND + SHIFT + M on Macs) to switch between the 4:3 and 16:9 ratios or to turn the aspect ratio guide off.

Once you have selected the right aspect ratio in “Edit” Mode, change to “Present” Mode and you’ll see a black border around your prezi. This reveals exactly what will appear when presenting on a screen of the corresponding aspect ratio. The black edges will not appear when presenting on a screen that has the selected aspect ratio, for example, if you choose 4:3 in “Edit” Mode and present on a normal 4:3 projector. This is a great way to make sure that you know precisely what your audience will see.

The screenshots below show you how the different aspect ratios will appear in “Present” Mode.

Your settings will be remembered the next time you open your prezi but can be changed at any time using the keyboard shortcut above.

Tip: In order to take advantage of this feature to its full extent, you can create frames that have a set aspect ratio. This is very easy to do, just hold the SHIFT key when you drag your cursor to create a frame.

Changing the aspect ratio with keyboard shortcuts

If you have keyboard shortcuts turned on, you can use the shortcut CTRL+SHIFT+M (COMMAND+SHIFT+M on Mac) to toggle through the three aspect ratio options.

If you use the "F" shortcut to draw a frame, once you've selected the correct frame type, simply hold down the SHIFT key to automatically constrain the frame size to the aspect ratio you've chosen.

Note: Prezi Classic for iPad uses a 4:3 ratio by default but also supports 16:9.
