Who Was Robert Edward Lee? Education and Schooling [Famous General of the Confederacy] [He attended West Point for college in 1825] [He was educated in Alexandria, Virginia schools] [He graduated from college in 1829] Family Background [Henry Lee] [His father was known as Henry "Light-Horse Harry" Lee, the Revolutionary War hero] [Many relatives of Lee were patriots and military leaders] [Related to Martha Washinton] Start of the Civil War [Lee was 54 years old and colonel for the United States Army] Sneaky Stratigies [Lee used stratigies during the war that were not recommended by the West Point professors and were not expected by the North] [For example, he would divide his troops into two armies. West Point professors did not recommend that because the enemy would have a chance to surround each individual army and take them out one at a time. Since the North expected that Lee would obey what he had been taught by the professors, they lost many chances to seperate the army.
Lee as a Military Leader [Lee was very kind and considerate of his men. He gave them confidence to fight hard, and his troops were faithful in him] Famous Quotes ["Get correct views of life, and learn to see the world in its true light. It will enable you to live pleasantly, to do good, and, when summoned away, to leave without regret."] ["I tremble for my country when I hear of confidence expressed in me. I know too well my weakness, that our only hope is in God."] ["Do your duty in all things. You cannot do more, you should never wish to do less."] Resources [http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/authors/r/robert_e_lee.html]
