As Kennedy Middle School teachers,
what is our fundamental purpose?
The concept of public education for all children means that all students are merely required to attend school and that learning is not a required expectation. Do you agree or disagree? Explain.
What happens at our school when a student experiences difficulty in learning?
"It is our mission to help all students learn if they are conscientious, responisble, attentive, developmentally ready, fluent in English, and come from homes with concerned parents who take an interest in their education."
"Our mission is to create a school with an unrelenting focus on learning; failure is not an option. But ultimately it will be the responsibility of the student and his or her parents to take advantage of the opportunities for learning."
"Our mission is to ensure all success for our students. We will do whatever it takes to ensure their success--provided we don't have to change the schedule, modify any of our existing practices, or adopt any new practices."
"It is our mission to help all students learn if they are conscientious, responisble, attentive, developmentally ready, fluent in English, and come from homes with concerned parents who take an interest in their education."
"The words of a mission statement are not worth the paper they are written on unless people begin to do differently. The mission of a school or district is not revealed by what people say, but rather, by what they do."
Gardner Middle School is committed to providing a safe learning environment where staff, students, parents, and community accept the responsibility of preparing students for academic success and to face the challenges of the future. Gardner Middle School's environment of trust and mutual respect for all people reflects our belief that all students can learn. With rigorous and varied academic standards, we will work together to prepare our students to take a role in society as productive citizens and help the develop their personal commitment to learning.
The Blissfield Middle School is dedicated to creating a respectful environment where individuals learn and succeed by developing character, intellect, wellness, and a desire for life long learning.
Eaglebrook School's role is to help each boy come into confident possession of his innate talents, improve the skills needed for success in secondary school, and establish values that will allow him to act with thoughtfulness and humanity.
City High School strives to be a community of learners in which all members use their minds well and care about one another. We engage with challenging academics and the unique resources of our city and region in order to become active citizens and responsible stewards of our world.
The multi-ethnic community, parents, business partners, administrators, students, and staff work together to create an academic, physical, emothional, social, and safe environment where everyone can learn and respect one another. We Care about ourselves and others to create, support and maintain powerful, engaged learning in the Arts and Sciences. We Dare to use innovative techniques to enhance life long learning through technology, the multiple intelligences, varied instructional strategies, and interdisciplinary units. We Share our cultural backgrounds to nurture growth, responsibility, and productivity by celebrating our diversity within a positive school-wide atmosphere and by promoting sportsmanship, school spirit, and pride in ourselves through our daily studies and our educational accomplishments.
The mission of Vancouver Public Schools is to assure that, within a nurturing and stimulating environment, each of our diverse students and graduates achieves literacy and appropriate core competencies, and becomes a responsible and compassionate citizen.
"At John F. Kennedy Middle School we will promote a positive, nuturing, learning environment where students are succeeding and being prepared to excel in high school and beyond."
"If you don't know where you're going, you probably aren't going to get there."
Describe the school we are trying to create
"What would our school look like if it were a great place for students? What would it look like if it were a great place for teachers?"
Describe the school we are trying to create
"It is 5 years from now and we have achieved our vision as a school. In what ways are we different? Describe what is going on in terms of practices, procedures, relationships, results and climate?"
Imagine you have 60 seconds on Newscenter 22 to clarify the version of our school to the community. What will you say?
A future
with Vision
A future without Vision
"There is no more powerful engine driving an organization toward excellence and long-range success than an attractive, worthwhile and achievable vision of the future, widely shared."
Knowing who you are means having a significant purpose. Where you're going means having a picture of the future. What will guide your journey are the clear values.
How must we behave to create the school that will achieve our purpose?
When members of an organization understand the purpose of their organization, know where it is headed, and then pledge to act in certain ways to move it in the right direction, they don't need prescriptive rules and regulations to guide their daily work.

Think about your vision of the ideal graduate after 12 years of schooling.

What would we like to see in our graduates in terms of knowledge, skills, and dispositions?

What should they be like?

How should they act and live?
At John F. Kennedy Middle School, we will promote a positive, nurturing, learning
environment where students are succeeding and being prepared to excel in high school and beyond.
