Know, Believe, and Obey
Transcript of Know, Believe, and Obey
A Fly-over of Romans 6-8
"In war, truth is the first casualty"
Called to Know
What we know is critical to growth
Know a New Position
Know a New Master
Know a New Hope
"Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death?"
"We know that our old self was crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin."
"8 Now if we have died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. 9 We know that Christ, being raised from the dead, will never die again; death no longer has dominion over him."
“Do you not know that if you present yourselves to anyone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience, which leads to righteousness?”
"For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God."
“For we know that the whole creation has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until now.”
Called to Believe
Called to Obey
“So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus.”
6:16 ". . . you are slaves of the one whom you obey, . . ."
6:17b "you who were once slaves of sin have become obedient from the heart to the standard of teaching to which you were committed"
6:18b ". . . have become slaves of righteousness."
6:19 " . . . slaves to impurity . . . slaves to righteousness . . . "
6:20 "For when you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness."
6:22a "But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God . . . "
A New Master
“28 Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
The flesh is a cruel and demanding master as it calls us to live for self and yet that only increases the futility and misery of life.
The flesh promises fulfillment and satisfaction but only gives a never ending wanting of more.
"but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
The flesh promises that enslavement to your desires, your passions, and your independence will bring happiness and joy.
“9 As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Abide in my love. 10 If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in his love. 11 These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full.”
Where do I need to change most to be like Christ?
