Transcript of Career Shadowing
Epic-Premier has three target markets, involving types of insurance firms specialized MGAs, Third Party Administrators, and complete Insurance Providers. These targets are spread across the insurance continuum, so when one is shrinking, another is growing Epic-Premier are largely unaffected by the current economic recession and are still in a stage of growth, even though the growth now is slower than it has been in the past. There is no reason to expect this trend to change. Epic-Premier has been expanding slowly and steadily for 12 years and will continue this process over the next 15. The databases are scalable from firms with only a few workers who only need one database to firms with thousands of workers requiring international synchronization of multiple databases. Epic-Premier will always be based out of Lakeland. What employablity skills are needed for this company?
Epic-Premier requires basic knowledge of SQL programming, accounting basics, and a business sense of insurance terminology and practices -- and Epic-Premier heavily trains employees beyond that. In addition, Epic-Premier requires individuals who can apply these skills to the Sybase databases and their environments, including many applications which interact with the database (rating programs, web pages, XML interfaces, and so on). Salary and knoweldge: The average cost to Epic- Premier’s clients is 180/ hour. The education levels tend to be somewhere around the bachelor’s level of degrees -- although if the individual has knowledge of SQL, accounting, business practices, and insurance terminology, his formal education level will not be the main determiner. What technology is used in this job?
Lots of computers and servers, and peripherals required by them (printers, scanners, fax machines, and so on). Self Question What skills are need?
All employees need high levels of project management skills, and the ability to reach deadlines with required work and documentation finished. Since clients will be using their databases heavily, Epic-Premier has to ensure they understand how to use it, what to do when something is wrong, and how to correct it. Epic-Premier provides extensive custom training and documentation to minimize the amount of support clients will need. Epic-Premier’s databases track insurance policies through hundreds of different line codes (General Liability, Property, Auto, Worker’s Comp, Home Owners, and so on), insured people, brokers, suppliers, affiliates, and claims, and tracks accounting data across of these (invoices, bills, statements, credits, transfers, audits, and so on). All employees require the ability to work in groups and by themselves with a high degree of self motivation and discipline. As Epic-Premier works constantly with clients in all forms of insurance, at all levels of technical knowledge, Epic-Premier’s employees have to be able to communicate with their clients effectively.
