Safety Orientation
Colleges and universities are relatively safe places to work. However, workplace hazards do exist. Le Moyne College, along with the NYC&URMG and Marsh USA, Inc., have created this New Employee Safety Orientation to help you stay safe and injury free while at work.
Introduction
Reporting a Hazard, Slip & Fall Prevention, Lifting Safety
Reporting a Hazard - if you notice a safety hazard (i.e. wet floors) report it to Physical Plant - x4500
Slip & Fall Prevention - wear appropriate shoes for conditions, take your time, use handrails, etc.
Lifting Safely - assess the weight of the load and route, get help when needed; bend at the knees, don't twist, maintain good balance
Adjust your workspace to fit your body
maintain a neutral body position
keep frequently used items within easy reach
take micro-breaks or change tasks
Do stretching or flexing exercises
If you need help assessing or configuring your workspace contact HR

Emergency Response
Contact Campus Security x4444
Call 911
Give emergency first aid, if trained/needed
Report the incident to your supervisor and HR
Cooperate with the investigation
Immediately (or within 24 hours of the incident)
Reporting a Worker's Compensation Claim
Notify your supervisor
Log a report with HR by completing online Workers Compensation Claim Form (choose "private computer" when logging in to the Portal)
If you need to seek medical attention immediately your supervisor can complete the form for you
Within 24-48 hours
After you complete the online form, HR will email you your workers compensation claim number and our insurance contact information
