The national press did not report all facts. Although the local press did, they were basic and quickly forgotten. A rational conclusion would be that less sophisticated press simply does not comprehend what facts must be suppressed as inconsistent with the party line but is overwhelmingly effective in establishing a framework of thinkable thought. American linguist, philosopher, cognitive scientist, and political activist.
Professor emeritus of linguistics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Chomsky is well known in the academic and scientific community as one of the fathers of modern linguistics, and a major figure of analytic philosophy.
Since the 1960s, he has become known more widely as a political rebel referring to himself as a libertarian socialist. Chomsky has received worldwide attention for his views, despite being typically absent from the mainstream media. 1992: Chomsky was cited

1980 to 1992.
He is the 8th most cited
cited source of all time. In Manufacture of Consent, Chomsky suggests that the primary function of the mass media in the United States is to mobilize public support for the special interests of the government and the private sector. What are those interests? When we talk about manufacturing of consent, whose consent is being manufactured? “Here lies an Indian woman, a Wampanoag, whose family and tribe gave of themselves and their land that this great nation might be born and grow” Indigenous people were killed “in the course of one of the greatest exercises of genocide in human history” When Columbus “discovered” the continent of America, there were 80 million Native Americans in Latin America; 12-15 million further north; by 1650 95% were wiped out. John Quincy Adams complemented the “superiority” of the US because their entity is based on "consent and not conquest".
Franklin Henry Giddings used the phrase “consent without consent” was required to to extend “English sacredness of life” and the “required social order” to “racially inferior types”- this entailed the imposition of authority with the consent of the governed.
Is to deflect attention elsewhere for instance to Vietnam, Central America or the Middle East where the problems supposedly lie and away from the North American institutions.It is crucially important to prevent understanding so that elite groups can act without popular constraints to achieve their goals and is disguised by the name of “national interest”
The greatest achievement of critics is to prevent realization that what is happening today is not a departure from our historical ideals and practice. It is rather a systematic expression of the way our institutions functions and will continue to function unless impeded by aroused masses.

In a totalitarian system one MUST obey and this obedience is secured by force but in a democracy, such as that of the US, will most likely result in death.
The democratic system exemplified by the US, it is not only important what people do but also what they think. Since the state lacks the capacity to ensure obedience by force and thought has the potential to lead to action, threat to order must be exercised at the source. It is necessary to establish a framework for possible thought that is constrained within the principles of state religion. To achieve this respectability for the state doctrine, the state must be portrayed as benevolent, adopt a 'defensive stance' and expose the evil nature of the enemy.
Even in a totalitarian system the state must be concerned about popular attitudes whereas in a democracy they are systematically muted.
Through US's fabrication of the truth and supression of freedom of the people, Chomsky illustrates the relationship between the media and the government and says that these trends are easy to perceive in a totalitarian state, but not in this system of “brainwashing under freedom” to which we are subjected and which all too often we serve as willing.
