PSYCHOLOGICAL RESPONSE TO TREATMENT AND REHABILITATION
GOAL SETTING
Goal setting will make it a lot easier for a player to recover from an injury and treatment from the rehab, it is good physically because the person will know when to do which activities. It is also good psychologically as it helps the person go back to his physical shape and can motivate him go to go back to his best.
MOTIVATION
Motivation is thought to be a combination of the drive within us to achieve our aims and the outside factors which affect it. With this in mind, motivation has the following two forms, intrinsic motivation and extrinsic motivation. After treatment, the injured athlete can motivate himself by setting targets so when he gets back to his normal state, he will be able to go back to his peak performance. If someone gets injured on a short term basis, that athlete will be motivated to go back as he might be scared that his spot will get taken in the first team by another player. if someone is injured on a long term basis, that player will lack of motivation for himself as he will not be bothered on going to training and matches because he probably believes that he will never go back to his best as he has been out for a long time.
CONFIDENCE
desire
when a player is under rehabilitation, there are psychological changes going through of an injured athletes' brain, an athlete might have lack of desire on getting back to the sport if i is a long term injury because it is hard mentally to get that desire and passion back once you are out of the game for a long time, but if an athlete.
if a player is injured, and is going through rehabilitation for recovery, hs confidence will gradually decrease as the athlete is having psychological problems and that will eventually let his confidence down ashe believes that the injury can affect his performance negatively.
