BOOTIFUL SLEDGES
HISTORIANS SAY THAT THE ARCH AND THE WHEEL WERE THE GREATEST ACEVEMENTS OF ALL TIME!
BOOTIFUL SLEDGES
even though farmers had to use the sledges for back breaking work to hatvest and carry their crops every day they didn't complain.well at least to our knowledge. we also don't understand how the armies went into battle without chariots, their feet probably made them lose... just saying. then again, the other army probably didn't have charots either! :)
Before wheels, people dragged goods on flat-bottomed wheelless carts called SLEDGES!
sledges got stuck in mud and couldn't hold heavy loads
oxen could pull three times more weight on wheeled carts, than sledges
wheeled carts could go longer distances
ancient Sumer made several technological advances
the 2 most important advances were....... The Wheel and The Arch!
The wheel was first used for pottery. It was used to shape clay into pots
AS CRAZY AS IT SOUNDS.... Sumerians discovered that when the wheel was flipped on it's side it could roll forward AND backward
THE WHEEL
ANCIENT SUMERIAN ARCHES WERE
UPSIDE-DOWN U OR V SHAPED
STRUCTURES ABOVE BUILDINGS
