The Proposed Coffee Table Book
The proposed coffee table book “Picture of Houses Worth a Thousand Stories” will cover some of Ancestral houses in some town of Bulacan this houses are once became home of prominent people in Bulacan and now some of them were converted into museums to preserve and share to people the historical values of this houses.
As this study states, the product is a coffee table book that highlights renowned ancestral houses to familiarize it to reader especially for the tourist who interested to visit Bulacan.
Bulacan tourism will benefit highly on this project because in terms of history, in a way, the proposed coffee table book has the ability to promote Bulacan Ancestral houses through visuals in a more artistic comportment. It will also be an advantage to them if readers who read the book became familiar and encourage visiting the ancestral houses of Bulacan
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
1. What are the perceptions of readers towards a coffee table book?
2. What will be the effect to the readers of using coffee table book in promoting ancestral houses of Bulacan as a tourist?
3. What Ancestral Houses should be included in the book


4. How would the proposed coffee table book “picture of houses worth a thousand stories” appeal to readers and non readers

Significance of the study
• Bulacan tourism
The study can contribute to invite more tourists in bulacan that will elevate tourism and promoting bulacan historical landmarks

• Owner of featured ancestral houses
Being featured on the propose coffee table book, the owners of houses will have an idea those familiar to their houses to different respondents

• Future researcher
Future researcher who have parallel and related researches about books, coffee table book in particular, may utilize the said study as a reference

• Researcher
The book, one published will be used a leverage for the researcher to become an established author, using the said book as her debut work

• Academe
The study will add knowledge about those ancestral houses, to the academe so that the university will rely the information to the learners, that their awareness will be broadened.

Scope and limitation
This research focused only on the researchers’ insight towards the proposed coffee table book “pictures of houses worth a thousand stories” the researcher will have to conduct a survey to identify which are the renowned ancestral houses featured for proposed coffee table book based on the respondents opinion. And also the researcher will have conduct FGD to identify which book cover should be use in the proposed coffee table book this will also tackle the readers’ insight towards the book’s promotions and its effectiveness. The survey and FGD will conduct in some town of Bulacan
Chapter 3

Research METHODOLOGY

Research Design
The researcher will use marketing relevant qualitative research design in this study. Specifically survey method to determine what ancestral houses should be included in the book. Focus Group Discussion (FGD) will also be conducted to determine which among ancestral houses photos and the proposed book cover should be use that will catch the attention of the readers.
Sample, Sample Size, Sampling Design
50 respondents were inquiring for the survey. The respondent were within the range of 18-65 years of age, any gender; male or female, students, employed or unemployed, and of any status.

And 30 participant were invited for focus group discussion. The participants were within range of 18-25 years of age, any gender; male or female
Among the survey respondents, most of them (68%) were female while the remaining (32%) were male.


And most of the FGD participants, most of them (63.3%) were male while the remaining participants (36.7) were female.
Most of the survey respondents (78%) were within the age of 16-25 years old and other of the respondents and the other respondents (22%) were within the age of 26 and above.
Study Locale
The survey will be conduct in Malolos, Plaridel, Pulilan, San Rafael, San Miguel, Pandi,and Hagonoy while the Focus Group Discussion conducted in some towns of Bulacan.
Data Collection Instruments
Data Collection Instruments is Survey questionnaires determined what ancestral houses will be included in the propose coffee table book and focus group discussion, the researcher show feature ancestral houses photos and 3 propose book cover to determined which should be use that catched the attention of the readers.

Data Collection
The researcher prepared survey questionnaires determined what ancestral houses will be included in the proposed coffee table book.
A group of (10) participants (each FGD) selected and invited to a place where the discussion take place. The facilitator welcomed and thank the participants for attending the said discussion and the researcher describe the purpose and mechanics of the focus group discussion
The participants asked about their awareness about ancestral houses in Bulacan the facilitator asked question about the perception of the participants towards the ancestral houses will be feature and also the facilitator will show 3 proposed book cover.
The facilitator asked questions regarding to overall appearance of 3 propose book cover. All discussion moderated by a moderator and recorded to gathered all important information of the participants
Data analysis
The answers of the respondents to the survey questions and FGD questions were tallied subsequent to the data collection.
With the information gathered and tallied, the researcher examined the views and answers of
the respondents.

General Discussion
Awareness towards ancestral houses in Bulacan
The 15 well known Ancestral houses will be feature in proposed coffee table book according to the respondents
Most of the respondents(70%) aware to ancestral houses in Bulacan and other respondents (30%) don’t have an idea to ancestra houses in Bulacan.
Discussion about the quality of a coffee table book
Readers perception about what content a coffee table should we have
Majority of the respondents (73.3%)answered the book cover design, a little more than one fourth (43.3%) answered Title and only few (13.3%) answered others
Readers Perception of what orientation the coffee table book should use
Most of the respondents (83.3%) answered the Landscape orientation good to a coffee table book and a little less than one fourth (16.7%) answered Portrait

More than one half of the respondents (56.7%) suggest A4 size to a coffee table book, more than one fourth of the respondents (30%) suggest 13x11 size and a few respondents (13.3%) suggested A3 size
Reader’s Familiarity to a Coffee Table Book
The figure show the reader’s familiarity towards of a coffee table book Almost all the respondents (93%) are familiar to coffee table book, and other respondents (7%) don’t have an idea on what coffee table it is look like.

“ Compilation of pictures about preferred topics ”

Even though the majority of the respondents (75%) say that they are aware of what coffee table is, and Almost one-fourth (25%) of the respondents who have no idea , think of a coffee table book such as the following:
“ a book about coffee table”

“ Menu ng ibat ibang coffee usually sa café or restaurant "

Effectiveness of publishing the coffee table book for promoting Tourism of Bulacan.
Most numbers of the respondents (75%) think that publishing coffee table book about Ancestral Houses in some town in Bulacan can help in promoting the tourism of Bulacan while a few (25%) thinks it will not help.
Effective Advertising and promotion for the coffee table book
Most of the respondents (25.4%) that advertising in the internet ,t.v commercial (19.7), print ads (18.3%), can be effective to promote the proposed coffee table book, others forms of advertisement such as newspapers (11.3%), catalogues (11.3%), transit ads (7%) and fliers (7%)
Promotional activities for a “Picture of Houses Worth a Thousand Stories” use for Ad Campaign
The respondents (43.3%) think that conducting exhibits and conducting contest(33.3%) can help
promoting coffee table book . and other respondents(23.3%) giving giveaways is also help promoting coffee table book.

News papers
Most of the respondents (85%) read newspaper while little less (15%) do not read newspaper
Newspaper Titles
Majority of the respondents (73.3%) reads Philippine daily inquirer, other few (20/%) respondents read manila bulletin, and the least respondents (6.7%) read Philippine Star .
Frequency of using the internet
Majority of the respondents (93.3%) are daily internet users , while very few respondents (6.7%) rarely use it.
Websites
Exactly (50%) of the respondents are Facebook users, A little less than one fourth respondents (26.7%) are on Google, a few respondents(13.3%) visit Youtube while other respondents (10%) are subscribed on Tumblr.
Focus Group Discussion(FGD) Analysis
Impact on the overall appearance of the proposed covers
The participants were asked about the overall appearance of the 3 proposed covers the discussion discussed on the layout arrangement the font used and the elements of the book cover and the perception towards each book cover the respondents indicated the following
Impact of the overall appearance, COVER A
When asked about the overall appearance of the cover A almost all of the respondents (50%)noticed the;
“It looks like traditional coffee table book. The layout is very common but looks elegant.”

“catchy and interesting”

“tamang-tama lang yung pag-gamit nung backround dun sa collage nakakaatract”

“Attractive”

“bagay siya sa topic”

On the other hand the negative feedbacks about the overall appearance of Cover A are as follows:
“For me, to much photos and too much clutter”


“Parang Horror yung dating”

Layout arrangement
The respondents were asked on how they see the layout arrangement majority (36.7%) of the respondents said that:
“cool and innovative”

“I like the first cover w/c is in collage type
because nowadays traditional types of
arrangement was not that good in eyes
of the reader”

Font
The respondents were asked on how the font fits on the layout more than one-fourth (26%) of the respondent said that:
“It suits on the cover and also it is readable but for more emphasis it is good to be bold in letters”

“it suits the theme

“it is an appropriate font for design”

“More vintage-looking font”

The respondents were asked to rank the proposed book cover based on its appearance majority of the respondents gave 9 some gave of others gave a value of 8 a few gave a value of 7 other percentage gave a value of 6 and the least a value of 5

When asked whether the proposed book cover can affect the readers on buying the coffee table book majority of the participants said that they will buy the book when placed on a bookstore based on the cover when asked for the reason here are their responses:
“it caught my attention”

“I can see the purpose of the book”

“components are well- combined”

Other participants stated that they will not buy the book according to its cover for the following reason:
“hindi masyado mabasa yung font”

“because of the Color scheme”

“nakakatakot”

Impact of the overall appearance, COVER B
When asked about the overall appearance of the cover B almost all of the respondents (40%) noticed the:
“it is simple but it’s not boring. It has something to tell”

“There’s an essence/relevant to the subject of the book”

“magandang tinginan. Simple pero may dating”

Layout arrangement
The respondents were asked on how they see the layout arrangement majority (26%) of the respondents said that:
“simple yet the lay out is very nice. The combinations of the elements are attractive”

“I love the fluid arrangement of the
photos it is simple but
it tells the story”

The respondents were asked on how the font fits on the layout more than one-fourth (26%) of the respondent said that:
“readable and also suits on the type of the cover”

“Its look interesting the simpleness of the design can attract people”

“Yeah, definitely, I want to buy a book with that that kind of cover
because its attractive, its perfect”

“yes sa picture naipakita na yung some old things na makikita sa old houses
that thing catches my attention”

When asked about the overall appearance of the cover C almost all of the respondents (10%) noticed the:
“typical, arrangement of graphics”

“its simple but its dark. The color are too vivid”

“its too simple and its too boring to look at”

Layout arrangement
The respondents were asked on how they see the layout arrangement majority (26%) of the respondents said that:
“very simple it doesn’t fit to be a book cover”

“the arrangement is too simple the choice of color is too boring”

“the last cover is also okay, but it doesn’t attract my attention”

The respondents were asked on how the font fits on the layout more than one-fourth (26%) of the respondent said that:
“very bold maybe it will complement the entire cover if it has lots of curves
so that it will look more elegant”

“ Hindi gano kasi para sakin hindi catchy yung design neto”

“no, idont like faded style"
“no boring"

“no I don’t like dull colors”

“no the cover doesn’t attract me”

Chapter 5
Conclusion and Recommendation

• The perception of the readers on the coffee table book are cover mostly a compilation of picture about given topic.
• The researcher identified the 15 well known Ancestral houses that will be feature on the proposed coffee table book “ PICTURE OF HOUSES WORTH A THOUSAND STORIES” through conducting a survey in different areas of Bulacan, the researcher analysed and tallied, the result are the following Ancestral houses:

• Among the Proposed Coffee Table Book covers 15 well known Ancestral Houses. This proposed coffee table book aims to promote Bulacan Tourism through the said topic. Readers are familiar to the Ancestral House will be feature.
• The effective advertisement campaign for proposed coffee table book “ A PICTURE OF HOUSES WORTH A THOUSAND STORIES” will be disseminated through internet advertising, television commercials and print ads. Conducting contest and tradeshow were named as the most effective promotional activity to the coffee table book.
CONCLUSION
RECOMMENDATION
For the coffee table book “ A PICTURE OF HOUSES WORTH A THOUSAND STORIES” to know public, publisher should establish an effective advertising campaign that everyone from Bulacan even the tourist will be aware of print ads such as poster, billboards and signage are effective ad campaign to promote a coffee table book an effective media promotion such as internet, newspaper, and event sponsorship can boost the proposed coffee table book.

The aspects of the book should be improved according to the respondents was the book cover to make it attractive for the readers
