Psychopathology
Psychodynamic approach
AO1 - Conflicts between the id, ego and super ego create anxiety. The mind relieves these conflicts by using ego defence mechanisms. Repression (moving unpleasant memories or thoughts into the unconscious) is an example of this. Another ego defence mechanism is projection which is blaming someone else for something a child cannot deal with. In addition regression is known as behaving as a child when faced by a difficult situation. All these ego defences can cause abnormality if overused.
