Lecture 22: Conclusion

Why It Matters
One of the most important pillars of the Academy
It allows faculty to seek and create knowledge without fear of political reprisal
It empowers faculty to teach the truth as they understand it
It emancipates faculty to follow data wherever that may take them
Essential
But without academic freedom, the Academy as we know it would not exist.

It is one of the reasons why brilliantly talented researchers and scholars might prefer the Academy to other private or public sector opportunities.
The most important thing is to do what is challenging
Don't avoid research because it's difficult or you think that you're not good at it
You will learn from your mistakes
It will get easier
You will be light years ahead of other graduates who did not learn to write properly
