#1 The Foundation
" I think we all want justice and equality, a chance for a life with meaning. All of us would like to believe that if we were in a bad situation someone would help us" - Angelina Jolie
#2 Field Missions and the UNHCR
Since 2001, Angelina Jolie has been on field missions around the world and met with refugees and internally displaced people in more than 20 countries, including Sierra Leone, Tanzania, Cambodia, Pakistan, Thailand, Ecuador, Kosovo, Kenya, Namibia, Sri Lanka, North Caucasus, Jordan, Egypt, New Delhi, Costa Rica, Chad, Syria, and Iraq, to name a few, and most recently visited earthquake victims in Haiti on her latest trip to help survivors of conflict and natural disaster. She is the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and is responsible to lead and co-ordinate international action to protect refugees and resolve refugee problems worldwide.

This example shows us how devoted and responsible for her actions Angelina is. She doesn't support social injustice and has shown that by accepting the role of the UNHCR. She travels regularly to developing countries to help people and to raise awareness.
#3 Devotion and Status
"You go to these places and you realize what life's really about and what people are really going through. These people are my heroes." -Angelina Jolie

As a Goodwill Ambassador, Jolie uses her superstar status to generate media coverage about the plight of refugees and the conditions under which they live. To further raise awareness, she has released her personal journals from field visits that can be accessed at http://www.usaforunhcr.org. For her efforts, Jolie was honored with the Church World Service Immigration and Refugee Program Humanitarian Award in 2002.

Angelina not only is aware of the wider world but she is also aware of her own role as a world citizen. When she accepted her governors award she spoke very powerful words. She brought up the fact that their is a woman out there in the world who can do all her jobs better than her and has the same ambitions and work ethic as her but that woman is in a refugee camp and has no voice. She stated that if her mother was with her today that she would be proud of because to her, a life isn't worth living if you are not serving others. She mentioned how truly grateful and lucky she is to not have to worry about where her next meal is coming from. She has lived her life trying to for fill her mothers words and I believe she has. She is a global citizen in every aspect and I will forever see her as a hero.

Angelina made a foundation. The Jolie-Pitt Foundation, which is dedicated to eradicating extreme rural poverty, protecting natural resources and conserving wildlife. Her and Brad donated $1 million to Doctors Without Borders, an international medical humanitarian organization created by doctors and journalists in France in 1971. The organization provides aid in nearly 60 countries to people whose survival is threatened by violence, neglect, or catastrophe, primarily due to armed conflict, epidemics, malnutrition, exclusion from health care, or natural disasters, for emergency medical assistance to help victims of the Haiti earthquake.

This example demonstrates how she is a global citizen because it shows just how selfless she is and how involved she is with helping those in developing countries. She has gone to the extremes to help provide for less privileged people and uses her celebrity status and career to help promote her cause. She is willing to act to make the world a more sustainable place.

"Without pain, there would be no suffering, without suffering we would never learn from our mistakes. To make it right, pain and suffering is the key to all windows, without it, there is no way of life." -Angelina Jolie
