1.1. Potential Security Risk:
There are many potential security risks that can impact on Aviation Businesses and the staff and passengers involved.
Weapons e.g. knifes, guns, improvised explosive devices (IED), glass, cutlery, needles and scissors.
Potential hijacking on the ground and in the air.
Unattended bags in the airport.
Unaccompanied bags on the aircraft.
These can impact Aviation Businesses because these risks can jepardise the safety of the staff and passengers on board the aircraft and if any of these risks manage to get aboard the aircraft it can cause passengers to feel unsafe travelling with the airline company in the future. These risks can also cause delays and cancellations, aircraft damage and bad financial reputations for the airline company.
1.2. Appropriate responses to security breaches:
When you get to check-in you are asked a series of questions that you have to answer appropriately. If these questions arent answered correctly you will be taken to interigation and questioned further.
When walking through security restricted items will be removed such as (liquids, blades and explosives etc.) These are taken away because some of these items can be potentially fatal to any passengers and staff airside.
As soon as you enter the airport CCTV will be in use, CCTV is in use for the safety of the passengers and staff airside and landside.
If you are involved in any specific security breaches, emergency procedures will be taken into play.
If the security breach is serious and potentially fatal the police and special branch will be contacted and will take further action.
Some of the Security Breaches for staff and passengers include:
Unauthorised access to restricted zones by persons known and unknown,
Forged ID passes,
Stolen ID passes,
Inappropriate responses to security questions at check-in,
1.3. Personal Responsibility:
The personal responsibilities of staff in Aviation Businesses is that they have to follow company procedures and awareness of risks especially at check-in, security, boarding and cabin crew.
Passengers compliance with the rules e.g. unattended baggage and restricted items are all their own responsibilities.
All staff and passengers have to be aware of all security breaches.
1.4. Role of Aviation Regulatory Bodies:
International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO): The ICAO are a specialised agengy for the United Nations. It codifies the principles and techniques of international air navigation and fosters the planning and development of international air transport to ensure safe and orderly growth.
European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA): EASA is an agency of the European Union with regulatory and executive tasks in the field of civilian aviation safety.
Department for Transport (DFT): DFT is the government department responsible for the English transport network and a limited number of transport matters.
Civil Aviation Authority (CAA): CAA is the statutory corporation which oversees and regulates all aspects of civil aviation in the United Kingdom.
1.5. Restricted Areas:
Restricted zones Landside include security and the gates surronding the airport can not be accessed by staff without ID passes.
Restricted Zones Airside include staff rooms and all areas that say restricted access. Only authorised staff with ID can access these areas.
