The Four Textures in Music
Transcript of The Four Textures in Music
texture- describes the way various sounds and melodic lines occur simultaneously in the music
the simplest texture, a single unaccompanied melody
where there is one melody with interest with other, less prominent sounds
when two or more melodies are played simultaneously. Polyphonic music also has harmony built into it, although there are not clear "chords" as with homophonic textures.
counterpoint- the technique of writing two or more melodies that fit together
Imitative polyphony- when the various lines sounding together use the same or similar melodies
non- Imitative polyphony- when the various lines sounding together use different melodies
