Family-Strengthening the Home
("And He Shall Lead Them," Watercolor by Tawnya McGraw)
~ "The Family: A Proclamation to the World," Ensign, Nov. 1995, 102.
The key to successful missionary work is a close relationship between the missionaries and the members. Creating an environment in working with members that will bring more into the Church.
Missionary Work:
A Humble and Contrite Heart
Steps Towards Righteousness
Agency
Happiness in Family Life
is most likely to be achieved when founded upon the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ. Successful marriages and families are established and maintained on principles of faith, prayer, repentance, forgiveness, respect, love, compassion, work, and wholesome recreational activities.”

The same priesthood power that created worlds, galaxies, and the universe can and should be part of our lives to succor, strengthen, and bless our families, our friends, and our neighbors—in other words, to do the things that the Savior would do if He were ministering among us today.
Our most important and powerful assignments are in the family. They are important because the family has the opportunity at the start of a child’s life to put feet firmly on the path home.”
Almost without exception, bishoprics, stake presidencies, and auxiliary presidencies who clearly love and respect one another have an almost magnetic effect on those within their reach. Love is contagious; acceptance is balm to the soul. And when warmth and camaraderie are obvious among members of a presidency, similar feelings typically ripple through the entire congregation. Elder Russell M. Ballard “Counseling with our Councils,” p.118-119, http://institute.lds.org/.
Elder Craig A. Cardon, "Choosing Liberty and Eternal Life" , February 2008. http://www.lds.org/.
I Know that My Redeemer Lives
FAVORITE QUOTE
“May each of us treasure this truth; one cannot forget mother and remember God. Why? Because these two sacred persons, God and mother, partners in creation, in love, in sacrifice, in service, are as one. ”

WHY IT MATTERS
I love my mother. She is my best of friends, the one I am always yearning to talk to. She is a spiritual giant and I love her to the deepest depths of my heart. This quote helped me to remember just how vital she is not only to me but to all of the lives she touches with her motherly embrace. And as I read this quote, I was filled with the love I have for my future children. I was also reminded that I have a duty to prepare for my children. My husband and I are due to have a baby in December and this quote opened my heart to the sacred duty I have to be this kind of mother to the child I am carrying.
“We work together in faith and unity, faith that the Lord will guide our steps and unity with each other and the missionaries, always motivated by our love for Him, our love for one another, and our love for those we serve.” —Elder Neil L. Andersen , Worldwide leadership broadcast,
June 24 2013, http://www.lds.org/.

He invites all of us who are heavy laden to come unto Him, to learn of Him, to follow Him, and thus to find rest to our souls.

Back then I could not have imagined how far and how fast the world would move away from God; it was impossible to understand that, given doctrine, principles, and commandments. And yet the standard of Christ and His Church have not moved. As He said, "The truth abideth forever and ever." When we understand and accept this, we are prepared to face the social pressure, ridicule, and even discrimination that will come from the world and some who call themselves friends.

I know this work is God's very truth, and I know that only at our peril would we allow doubt or devil to sway us from it's path. Hope on, Journey on. Honestly acknowledge your questions and your concerns, but first and forever fan the flame of your faith, because all things are possible to them that believe.

Use your Agency to develop yourself personally. As you discover your gifts and talents, remember that parents and mentors may assist you but you must let the Spirit guide you.
Brethren, whatever your age, whatever your circumstance, I admonish you to plan your life with purpose.

If we will be obedient and if we are diligent, our prayers will be answered, our problems will diminish, and we will be close to the Lord and feel of His love and of the comfort of the Holy Ghost. “What can we do when hard things happen to us?” Elder Robert D. Hales Ensign, May 1998 pg. 75.
Our individual progress toward eternal life requires us to be willing to submit to Christ (see Mosiah 3:19). Then, if we are truly faithful and endure to the end, our wills can finally be swallowed up in the will of the Father.

My heart rejoices when I realize that in our day tens of thousands of young men, young women, and senior missionaries have accepted the call to be emissaries of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. They are taking the restored gospel of peace to the world, one person and one family at a time—a qork of righteousness to bring this peace to Heavenly Father’s children.”

The Lord looks upon the light we have received, the desires of our hearts, and our actions, and when we repent and seek His forgiveness, He forgives.

Many individuals who have what they perceive to be meager talents humbly and generously use those talents to bless the lives of those around them. Selfishness is the root of great evil. The antidote for that evil is exemplified in the life of the Savior. He shows us how to focus our lives outward in unselfish service to others.

How do we stay close to the Savior? Humbling ourselves before God, Praying always, repenting of sins, entering the waters of baptism with a broken heart and contrite spirit, and becoming true desciples of Jesus Christ are profound examples of the righteousness that is rewarded by abiding peace.
Elder Quentin L. Cook, "Personal Peace: The Reward of Righteousness," General Conference, April 2013, http://www.lds.org/.
It has been said of Africans that they have very little of that which matters least and a great deal of that which matters most. They have little interest in enormous homes and the finest cars but great interest in knowing their Heavenly Father and His Son, Jesus Christ, and in having eternal families.
Elder John B. Dickson, "The Gospel to All the World," General Conference, April 2013, http://www.lds.org/.
Humility is the essence of repentance. Humility is selfess, not selfish, It doesnt demand its own way or speak with moral superiority. Instead, humility answers softly-and listens kindly for understanding.

Humility recognizes that no one can change someone else, but with faith, effort, and the help of God, we can undergo our own mighty change of heart.

In our efforts to rescue and serve, we follow our Savior's unique example and tender teachings about love: "Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself" (Matt. 22:39). He even commanded us to love our enemies (see Luke 6:27-28). And in His great teachings at the end of His mortal ministry, He said:
"A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another."
"By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another" (John 13:34-35).

This is a divine work in process, with the manifestations and blessings of it abounding in every direction, so please dont hyperventilate if from time to time issues arise that need to be examined, understood, and resolved. They do and they will. In this church, what we know will always trump what we do not know. And remember, in this world, everyone is to walk by faith.
Elder Jeffrey R. Holland, "Lord I believe," General Conference, April 2013, http://www.lds.org/.
Pray to your Heavenly Father. This is His sacred work. He will guid you in what to do. He will open doors, remove roadblocks, and help you overcome obstacles.
Elder Neil L. Anderson, "It's a Miracle," General Conference, April 2013, http://www.lds.org/.
As part of Heavenly Father’s plan of redemption, you experience adversity during mortality. Trials, disappointments, sadness, sickness, and heartache are a difficult part of life, but they can lead to spiritual growth, refinement, and progress as you turn to the Lord.
True to the Faith (2004), 8-11
Like the designers and builders of our time, our loving and kind Father in Heaven and His Son have prepared plans, tools, and other resources for our use so that we can build and frame our lives to be sure and unshaken. The plan is the plan of salvation, the great plan of happiness.
Bishop Dean M. Davies, "A Sure Foundation," General Conference, April 2013, http://www.lds.org/.

The Savior forgives sins "upon earth" and not just at the FInal Judgment. He does no excuse us in our sins He does not condone our return to past sins. But when we repent and obey His gospel, He forgives us.
Elder Craig A Cardon, "The Savior Wants to Forgive" General Conference, April 2013
http://www.lds.org/.
Not only is the priesthood the power by which the heavens and the earth were created, but it is also the power the Savior used in His mortal ministry to perform miracles, to bless and heal the sick, to bring the dead to life, and, as our Father's Only Begotten Son, to endure the unbearable pain of Gethsemane and Calvary-- thus fulfilling the laws of justice with mercy and providing an infinite Atonement and overcoming physical death through the Resurrection.
Elder M Russell Ballard, "This is my Work and Glory" General Conference, April 2013, http://www.lds.org/.
As you bind up the wounds of those in need and offer the cleansing of His Atonement to those who sorrow in sin, the Lord's power will sustain you. His arms are outstretched with yours to succor and bless the children of our Heavenly Father, including those in your family.
"Reflections" By Tawnya McGraw
President Henry B. Eyring, "Come Unto Me" General Conference, April 2013, http://www.lds.org/.
Again I renew the call for a return to virtue. Virtue is the strength and power of daughters of God. What would the world be like if virtue-- a pattern of thought and behavior based on high moral standards, including chastity--were reinstated in our society as a most highly prized value? If immorality, pornography, and abuse decreased, would there be fewer broken marriages, broken lives, and broken hearts? Would media ennoble and enable rather than objectify and degrade God's precious daughters? If all humanity really understood the importance of the statement "We are daughters of our Heavenly Father." how would women be regarded and treated?
Elaine S. Dalton, "We Are Daughters of Our Heavenly Father" General Conference, April 2013, http://www.lds.org/.
The power of procreation is spiritually significant. Misuse of this power suberts the purposes ofthe Father's plan and of our mortal existence. Our Heavenly Father and His Beloved Son are creators and have entrusted each of us with a portion of Their creative power. . . how we feel about and use that supernal power will determine in large measure our happiness in mortality and our destiny in eternity.
Elder David A. Bednar, "We Believe in Being Chaste" General Conference, April 2013, http://www.lds.org/.
Outside the bonds of marriage, all uses of the procreative power are to one degree or another a sinful degrading and perversion of the most divine attribute of men and women.
("The Great Plan of Happiness," Ensign, Nov. 1993, 74)
Will I respond to the inclinations of the natural man, or will I yield to the enticings of the Holy Spirit? That is the Test.
Elder Bednar, "We Believe in being Chaste" General Conference, April 2013, http://www.lds.org/.
Let us all improve our personal behavior and redouble our efforts to protect our loved ones and our environment from the onslaught of pornography.
Then suddenly, there appears before us in this generation a sinister and diabolical enemy—pornography. Like the bark beetle it too is the carrier of a deadly disease. I shall name it “pernicious permissiveness.”
The onslaught of pornography in all of its vicious, corroding, destructive forms has caused great grief, suffering, heartache, and destroyed marriages. It is one of the most damning influences on earth. Elder Richard G. Scott, "To Acquire Spiritual Guidance," General Conference, October 2009, http://www.lds.org/.
In our day the dreadful influence of pornography is like unto a plague sweeping across the world, infecting one here and one there, relentlessly trying to invade every home, most frequently through the husband and father. The effect of this plague can be, unfortunately often is, spiritually fatal. President Boyd K. Packer, "Cleansing the Inner Vessel," General Conference, October 2010, http://www.lds.org/.
Pornography, though billed by Satan as entertainment, is a deeply poisonous, deceptive snake that lies coiled up in magazines, the Internet, and the television.
David E Sorenson, "You Can't Pet a Rattlesnake," General Conference, April 2001, http://www.lds.org/.
“Pornographic or erotic stories and pictures are worse than filthy or polluted food. The
body has defenses to rid itself of unwholesome food. With a few fatal exceptions, bad food will
only make you sick but do no permanent harm. In contrast, a person who feasts upon filthy
stories or pornographic or erotic pictures and literature records them in this marvelous retrieval
system we call a brain.

Happiness and Joy come from what a person is, not from what he or she possesses or appears to be.
Our first noble deed of the morning should be a humble prayer of gratitude. Scripture so counsels. "Pray unto God, and He will be favorable unto [you], and [you] shall see His face with Joy" (Job 33:26).
There is an essential aspect of the plan of happiness of our Heavenly Father in Heaven that is often ignored even though it invariably leads to peace and joy. The Savior gave His life that it might be used to bless every child of Father in Heaven. Elder Richard G. Scott, "The Path to Peace and Happiness," General Conference, October 2000, http://www.lds.org/.
It is better to obey the commandments because we fear punishment than not to obey them at all. But we will be much happier if we obey God because we love him and want to obey Him. When we obey Him freely, He can bless us freely.
