Planaria
Bufo Kotagamaii
DROUGHTS (:
homeland :- China, Bamboo Forest
Features :- around ears, eyes and body black patches are seen
Shape :- similar to a bear
Environment :- camouflages with rocks or snow where they can live safely
Camoflage :- use of env. or their black and white body (:
Body :-wool to keep it warm. extra thumb on each front paw
Extra finger :- to eat bamboo shoots (to grasp bundles of them)
Male Pandas are BIGGER than Females(:
communicate through sound, odour, scratching trees and pump urine....
They do not have permanant habitats (:
Their behaviour is based on their food, very little energy therefore an inactive animal
They are used as a symbol of China (:
Planaria(:
^They live in fresh water/ blackish water
Body size :- 3- 12mm
it's bilaterally symmetrical
Can regenerate(:
two eye spots at its anterior that are sensitive to light
mouth is ventral position..
It's a hermaphrodite, because both male and female reproductive systems are present(:
named aftr the Sri Lankan zoologist pro. Sarath Kotagama
Body colour is orangish with a pale colour ventral brown patches can be seen too
Skin is dry and has warts
Three pale colour stripes between its eyes
Female body is BIGGER than the male body
membrane found ONLY in the hind limbs of the feet (used for swimming)
Found mostly at night, mostly in the wet zone, central hills and the west and south regions
They live amoung decayed leaves, stones and sand banks, close to flowing water in streams, ponds and rivers. eg: sinharaja forest (torpical rainforest)
Droughts aren't a concerned fact like tornadoes, floods etc because it is a 'silent disaster' (:
this happens due to the lack of rainfall for a long period of time in a particular area ( different areas have different identifications towards droughts)
Precipitation (snow, dew, rainfall ) is a way for supply of water
long term droughts may bring desertification towards an area
Various Stages Of A Drought :-
Meteorological
Agricultural
Hydrological
Socio-economic
The first stage is Meteorological Drought (change in the natural rainfall pattern, therefore reduction of rainfall)
The second stage is Agricultural drought (due to the rainfall shortage crops will die)
The third stage is Hydrological drought (with no rainfall water ways will dry up)
The last stage is Socio-economic drought (the effect upon living organisms and there behaviours)
Drought isn't a sudden occurance. It isn't planned therefore to forcast it there is a large amount of research put in (rainfall value, reduction of water levels, soil moisture, rate of evaporation and transpiration etc)< help to forcast such a drought
Meteorologist have invented a scale to assess the drought situation, Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI)
USA allocates nearly 8 billion dollars for drought relief activies
highest individual damages is caused by droughts (drinking water crisis, increase of refugees, shortage of food)
