CFC CLP Talk 4:
Repentance & Faith
“The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.” - 2 Peter 3:9
It is impossible to place your faith in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior without first changing your mind about who He is and what He has done.
Faith is a
personal ACT
and
decision
.
A belief in the
Gospel
, the good news of
salvation.
Faith
is both belief
in the
messenger
, Jesus,
and the
message
that He brings.
> He stepped out of a God-focus into a self-focus.
> He stepped out of a God-consciousness into a self-consciousness.
> He stepped out of a God-centeredness into a self centeredness.
> He stepped out of a God-dependence into a self-dependence.

and you shall be saved- you and your household.(Act16:31)

2. Spiritualism and the occult
(witchcraft, fortune telling, ouija board, spirit of the glass, etc.)

3. Sexual Wrongdoing
(sexual intercourse outside marriage, adultery, active homosexuality, etc.)

4. Serious crimes
(murder, rape, kidnapping, robbery, corruption, etc.)

5. Drunkenness
and getting stoned on drugs
Repentance affects the way you think and act, your attitudes, motives, thoughts and behavior.
R
epentance is not just a simple confession of wrong doing. Rather, it refers to a change in Direction.
R
epentance means turning away from evil, wrong doing and running your own life.

R
epentance is turning to a life of obedience to the Word of God and having Jesus Christ in your life.
What must we do to repent?
Being truthful about your sin
.

(Psalm 32:5)
Being Sorry for your Sin.

Being willing to turn from your sin
.
-Renounce sin.
(1 Peter 3:10-11)
Specific Sins to Renounce:
How do we respond to God's Love...
What is
Forgiveness
Accepting Jesus...
Repentance only becomes complete after totally turning away from evil and accepting Jesus as Lord and Savior
"...if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land."
(2 Chronicles 7:14)
Before greeting the crowds, Pope Francis took a moment to remind listeners of his central message.

Remember this
:
F
ollow Jesus: no one else. To follow Jesus means to be involved, because faith is not something decorative. It is the strength of the soul!”

(change of mind)
- change my mind, change the inner man(particularly with reference to acceptance of the will of God)
- "Changed after being with", "think differently after"
- To repent (literally, "think differently afterwards")
Changing Direction
-
Turning from Sin

-
Turning from the World

(1 Jn 2:15; James 4:4)

-

Genuine repentance is the result of the work of the Holy Spirit in you heart.

"Faith is not some decorative or ornamental thing. To live the faith is not to decorate life with a little religion like a cake is decorated with a little frosting. Faith entails choosing God as a fundamental criterion of life.
To follow Jesus requires renunciation of evil, of egoism, and choosing good, truth, justice and a renunciation of self-interest. The true strength of Christianity is the strength of faith, of love, that involves the renunciation of all violence" Pope Francis
