Transcript of THE WEEKND

BIOGRAPHY
The Weeknd, also known as Abel Tesfaye, was born on February 16th 1990 in Scarborough, Ontario. He is a 24 year old Ethiopian Toronto based R&B singer. "He dropped out of high school when he was 17 and left one weekend and never came home" (AceShowbiz), that was how he came up with his name.

His first mixtape was called House of Balloons (2011), second, Thursday (2011), third, the Echoes of Silence (2011).

In the year 2012, he released Trilogy which was all three of his mixtapes combined into one album, and in 2013, he released Kiss Land.
He gained most of his popularity through the help of Twitter and Drake, who is also a Canadian artist. Drake enjoyed his music and posted some of his songs on his blog. He also invited Abel (The Weeknd) to perform for the OVO Fest. In addition, Abel was a big influence on his sophomore album Take Care, and that is how his career began.
HIS MUSICAL IMPORTANCE
The Weeknd "always let his music do the talking" (Complex Mag) and has "changed the sounds of modern R&B" (AceShowbiz) through his critically acclaimed mixtapes. "The Weeknd was dubbed the song bird of his generation" (AceShowbiz).
"In the beginning, I was very insecure. I hated how I looked in pictures... That was my whole thing: I'm going to let the music speak for itself." - The Weeknd (Complex Mag)
Is it so hard to say the same thing?
And you're so weak to say the same thing
And burn a hole into your apprehensiveness
And let the wildfire shine
And repeat after me
Good girls go to heaven,
And bad girls go everywhere
And tonight I will love you
And tomorrow you won't care

(Precious little diamond)
(I leave it all to you)
(Precious little diamond) x2
(Let it come to you)

You're in love with something bigger than love
You believe in something stronger than trust
Wanderlust
Wanderlust

Don't you shy away from me
Just sacrifice
Your every last, inhibition, I'm on your side
Don't patronize, you know tonight
Is the only time we'll have each other
Why, would you try
To waste this precious time?
'Cause tonight I'll be right here
And tomorrow you won't care

(Precious little diamond)

They're in love with this idea of love
It's a shame that they'll believe it will come

Bridge x3
Is it so hard to say the same thing?
And you're so weak to say the same thing
Analysis: In these lines Abel is referring the word’s “same thing" as in
I love you
, and he’s questioning why it’s so hard to say I love you for just one night. He’s telling her she’s weak because she was tricked into thinking that Abel actually loved her. He’s also calling her weak because most women use the words “I love you” as an excuse to be in a relationship when clearly Abel just wants sex.
Burn a hole into your apprehensiveness
And let the
wildfire shine
And repeat after me
Analysis: Abel is telling this girl to get rid of her expectations of getting into a relationship with him and to just let go for this one night (sex). A wildfire is a metaphor that represents moving around the world as an unstoppable force and taking a risk, which in this case, he is encouraging her to step out of her comfort zone, be confident and repeat after him (I love you).
Good girls go to Heaven,
And bad girls go everywhere

Analysis: He mentions that good girls miss their chance to take risks because of their morals. While bad girls do anything they want and go anywhere they want without hesitation. This refers to the title of the song, Wanderlust.
And tonight I will love you
And tomorrow you won’t care
Analysis: He is saying that only for tonight, he will love her, and telling her that tomorrow she won’t care because she’ll no longer be a good girl.
Precious little diamond
I leave it all to you
Precious little diamond
Let it all come to you
Analysis: He is referring her to a precious little diamond, as a good girl, and letting her decide what she wants although he already knows the outcome, which is a one night stand.
You’re in love with something bigger than love
You believe in something stronger than trust
Wanderlust
Wanderlust
Analysis: Abel is telling this girl that she is in love with something bigger than love, which is wanderlust, the strong desire to travel. And also, he is saying to her that she believes in something stronger than trust, as in taking a risk and being independant, to go and explore the world. Which is Abel's perspective on love and not a relationship, advice that he passes on to this girl.
Don’t you shy away from me
Just sacrifice your every last inhibition
Analysis: In these lines, he is telling her to not be a good girl and to just give it all up to him. Don't "shy away" from giving in to your urges.
I’m on your side
Don’t patronize
Analysis: He is telling her that he is on her side to let her know that he’s got her back and supports her thoughts and feelings, when he really does not. He is saying don’t patronize as in, don’t feel like he’s only saying these things to lure her in.
You know tonight
Is the only time we’ll have each other
Analyisis: They’re now both aware that tonight is going to be a one night stand and that it will be the only night where they share the same feelings.
Why would you try to waste this precious time?
Analysis: What is there to think about, he loves her in that moment, so why waste it talking about relationships when he doesn't want one.
Cuz tonight I’ll be right here
And tomorrow you wont care
Analysis: In these lines, he is trying to tell her that this is her last chance to be with him for this one night and after tonight, she won’t and doesn't need to love him. She wants something she can't have but Abel is trying to tell her what she's looking for is right in front of her, it just won't last as long as she wants it to.
They’re in love with this idea of love
It’s a shame that they’ll believe it will come
Analysis: Abel is saying that her definition of love is wrong, and that it is unfortunate that she actually believes in such a thing when the idea of love is much more than just relationships between a man and a woman.
For us all, for us all
Analysis: He’s just giving this advice to everyone. That not everybody will have the chance to experience their own views on love.
