Morphology, taxonomy and genetic of tropical diatom Pseudo-nitzschia species (Bacillariophyceae) in Malaysian waters

- discovery of novel species, P. batesiana, P. circumpora, P. fukuyoi and P. lundholmiae; number of dividing sectors and cingular bands structure serves as diagnostic features for P. pseudodelicatissima complex,

- ITS2 region together with secondary structure information proved to be useful in resolving the phylogeny of Pseudo-nitzschia especially species complexes,

- Malaysian strains of P. brasiliana have low geographical pattern in genetic differentiation, no speciation though geographically isolated,

- P. pungens strains from tropical and subtropical were genetically isolated from temperate strains, speciates into three different varieties,

- species richness of marine phytoplankton especially Pseudo-nitzschia is high
