Transcript of MBTI® Assessment

Your Step by Step Guide to Myers Briggs Type Inventory (MBTI) Assessment Tool
Now that we know...
What ways do your
innate preferences influence
you in your professional
and personal path?

What is MBTI?
Validity
"Whenever you are using any kind of psychological assessment, be sure that evidence of its construct validity is available for your review. Assessments that can’t establish construct validity are likely to do more harm than good."

...by Judith Grutter, Career Development Counseling Expert
Reliability
93% of the respondents remained the same on at least three preferences at retest

65% of the respondents remained the same on all four preferences
The MBTI instrument
supports self-development, appreciating differences, and using differences constructively.

How will a personality type assessment be useful?
Who am I...
Why I want to work...
What I want to do...
Where I want to do it...
What is a preference?
MBTI has 8 decades of research data to
back-up its results.
MBTI is valid for
indicating personality
differences as described
by Jungian theory
MBTI is not a valid
measure of personality
traits, character, or
ability.
Preferences are innate and shaped by our environment
Think of your favorite room in the house, but you frequently go to all of the others.

Try to write your full name down, catching an object thrown in the air, or cross your arms now.

Can we perform these tasks equally well with left or right given enough practice?

Self Assessment
What is your type code?
MBTI is the best indicator that we have, but it is still only an indicator.

There are no better or worse types.

In order to get as close as possible to your true personality preferences, I’d like to describe them to you and have you estimate your most natural pattern:
During self-assessment, you’ll have an opportunity to estimate your type.
Then, we'll talk about the type reported by the indicator, with which you can agree or disagree.
Finally, you'll decide on the type that fits you the best, and I'll be able to send your Career Report to you.
Reported Type
It isn’t perfect, and there’s no indicator in the world that could possibly know you better than you know yourself.

You are the expert on you.

Every Type is in every career field, but they do it differently!

Which one of the following statements most accurately describes you?

I am someone who is decisive, quick to take action, values facts and logic, and pays attention to details.

I am someone who is service-minded, seeks to help people in very practical ways, and is unselfish, kind, and understanding.

I am someone who is guided by my passions and beliefs, has a sixth sense about people, and works to ensure harmony in the workplace.

I am someone who is an agent of change, a person with a vision who values logical argument, competence, and independence.
E or I
If your preference is for Extraversion, you might say or think...
I like getting my energy from active involvement in events and having a lot of different activities. I'm excited when I'm around people and I like to energize other people. I like moving into action and making things happen. I generally feel at home in the world. I often understand a problem better when I can talk out loud about it and hear what others
have to say.
If your preference is for Introversion, you might say or think...
I like getting my energy from dealing with the ideas, pictures, memories, and reactions that are inside my head, in my inner world. I often prefer doing things alone or with one or two people I feel comfortable with. I take time to reflect so that I have a clear idea of what I'll be doing when I decide to act. Ideas are almost solid things for me. Sometimes I like the idea of something better than the real thing.
J or P
If your preference is for
Judging, you might say or think...
What's the goal?
When is it due, i.e. exact date and time?
I need to get started ASAP.
I will make this my top priority.
I could use a little more direction on this.
I need to get organized.
What are all the steps I need to accomplish and
in what order?
I need to record this date in my appointment
book immediately.
My final product will be complete.
I want to be as efficient as possible.
I need to plan the work and
work the plan.
If your preference is for
Perceiving, you might say or think...
What are my options?
When is the latest I can finish it?
I have plenty of time.
What if something more important comes up?
I need to be able to do this my own way.
I need to get as much information about this as I can.
What's the most interesting thing about this project that
I can jump right into?
I will add this to my to-do list when I get a chance.
There is no such thing as a final product;
things can be improved.
I want this to be as interesting as possible.
I have an ideal about how to get started,
but that may change as I
learn more.
