The Vietnam War Major Sides Communist Anti-Communist South Vietnam United States South Korea China North Vietnam Vietcong Soviet Union Australia Facts About China's involvement The war started on September 26, 1959 China sent weapons and supplies to aide north vietnam China sent engineers into Vietnam to aid them In the summer of 1962, Mao Zedong agreed to supply Hanoi with 90,000 rifles and guns free of charge. Between 1965 and 1970, over 320,000 Chinese soldiers served in North Vietnam. The peak was in 1967, when 170,000 were stationed there. China's withdrawal from Vietnam was completed in July 1970 The Chinese also began financing the Khmer Rouge
