Building Responsible Relationships By Olivia Soukup and Maddie Drechsler Appropriate Dating Behavior Dating in groups is a good way to get to know the person without the pressure of being alone. Acting appropriate on a date should include you treating the other person the way you would like to be treated. Teen Relationships Are Important Teen relationships are important because it's a way to get to know each other. People may date to build friendships, or to look for characteristics they would like to have in a future spouse. Dating as a teenager also helps you figure out what type of people you like. There may be pressure in relationships to do things you don't want to do. Finding The Right Person The quality of someones character is important in finding someone. Finding someone who is unselfish, is respectful, respects themselves, is fun to be with, and has similar morals or values as you. The Benefits Of Abstinence Abstinence is the decision to avoid all sexual activity. Being abstinent until your married is stating that you would like to be in a serious, committed relationship before having intercourse. Benefits of being Abstinent Abstinence can keep you from worrying about getting STI's or the risk of pregnancy
Don't revolve your relationship around sexual activity
Being abstinent can result to having a stress free relationship. Peer Pressure
Internal- An impulse a person feels to engage in a behavior.
External- Pressure a person feels from another person or from a group to engage in a behavior. There are 2 types of pressures... Refusing There are 2 types of refusals; verbal and nonverbal Verbal Refusals- State your thoughts and feelings about the situation.
Nonverbal Refusals- Your body language should match what you are saying. Stand up straight and look serious so they will take you seriously. Avoid laughter and nervous behavior. Protective and Risk Factors Protective Factors- Anything that decreases the likelihood of someone engaging in a risky behavior.
Risk Factors- Anything that increases the likelihood of injury, disease, or other negative health problems. Common risk factors include:
Alcohol and drugs
Dating older people
Sexually active friends
Previous sexual activity The End!
