Interior Designer Description Interior designers create beautiful and functional spaces. They are experts when it comes to colour, texture, shape, and size. They use this knowledge to create attractive rooms. This may seem like a simple task, however it is far more complicated. Task 1. - Consult clients-recognize their needs, vision, budget Task 3. - Make sketches and give the clients a final sketch of the new space.
-Include paint colours, wallpaper, fabrics, flooring etc. Task 4. - If the clients do not like the final sketch make another.
-If the clients like the final sketch, hire and coordinate workers to make the appropriate changes to the space Do you have what it takes to be an interior designer? do you have creative ideas? do you understand technical drawings and diagrams? can you explain ideas and info to others? can you draw accurately? can you coordinate people and tasks? can you provide good advice? are you accurate when it comes to measuring, counting, and math? Secondary School Level Courses If you are interested in becoming an interior designer when you are older, it is important that you take courses that will help you when taking post-secondary classes related to interior designing. There are many courses related to design besides interior design such as industrial design, 2D and 3D design, and architectural studies programs. 6 hour design test For people who finish one of these levels and do not pursue further qualifications, their career options include: an interior designer, set designer, costume designer, florist, exhibit designer, and possibly a drafter. Professional Licensing Employment ARIDO and IDC are two professional associations. If you belong to these associations you must pay dues. Joining these associations will help you build relations, strengthen connections, and increase your brand visibility as well as your networking opportunities. Being a professionally licensed interior designer has its perks, as this qualification can give you a better chance at getting a job. To be a professionally licensed interior designer in Canada, it is required to be a hold a National Council of Interior Design Qualification certificate. This certificate proves that you have been educated and trained on public health, safety, and welfare. It also demonstrates that you are qualified through education, experience and examination. The NCDIQ is required to join a professional association like IDC. To be NCIDQ holder, you must complete the exam. This exam consists of two multiple choice sections which last half of a day each, and the practical portion which lasts a whole day Although the exam costs about $900, it is essential to pass it so that your future in interior designing is bright. Interior designers with the above qualifications have numerous potential employers. Some include interior design firms, architectural firms, and construction companies. A designers salary and roles/duties depend greatly on how much experience they have. Junior Designer Annual salary: $25 000 - 35 000 Requirements: diploma or Bachelors degree

Most employers will be looking for someone who already has some experience. Humber College has a fourteen week internship/co-op plan in which you also get paid. You can get internships at many different locations including interior design and architectural firms. To find out where you can get an internship, you may have to go to differnt firms to ask if they take in interns. Task 2.
