The Look!! Real World Learning
Open Ended Questions
Students apply real world concepts to questions, digging deeper into the understanding of a given topic. There are often many correct answers and sometimes no answer to the question. Get away from the multiple-choice style of thinking.
Authentic Source
Students learn from an authentic source. This could be a guest speaker, found primary source items (books, clothing, etc.), or even an authentic observation of a topic to be learned (grocery story-health, geometry-architects plans for construction, etc.).
Project Based Learning
Students create a project using authentic information and materials to demonstrate an understanding of the concept.
Field Trip!
Students integrate their learning in an actual real world environment (band students perform with other Disney musicians for patrons at Walt Disney World).
Students build leadership skills by taking ownership for their contribution to the real world
Learn by Doing
Students demonstrate understanding of information through application of real world ideas. Skills are often similar to that of a real-world profession.
