Transcript of Sustainability

Sustainability What is it? Why? How? Plant-based diet Sustainable living Sustainability is taking what we need to live now without jeopardizing the future generations to meet their needs It would be like taking your house and trashing it to the point where you can no longer live there We are destroying the planet's ability to support life CO2 emissions have greatly altered the planet’s atmosphere and are the biggest contributors to global warming we are running out of resources the Colorado River no longer reaches the sea the Aral Sea in Central Asia is now largely desert 80% of the planet's original forests are gone In the Amazon, 2000 trees are being chopped down every minute seven football fields every minute If we continue our current lifestyle, we will end up destroying ourselves and this planet we call home One third of our planet's natural resources have been consumed in the past decade only less than 4% of their original forest left 40% of waterways have become undrinkable The US has 5% of the world's population but consumes 30% of the world's resources and creates 30% of the world's waste Uncounsious Suicide Humankind depends on it We depend on nature to survive According to the American Heart Association, 910,000 Americans die each year due to cardiovascular disease In The China Study T. Colin Campbell, Ph.D. found that people who ate the most animal-based foods got the most chronic diseases while the people who ate the most plant-based foods were the healthiest and tended to avoid chronic diseases Plant-based diets are healthier! We are not artificial beings Then why do we eat hormones and pesticides and processed food? Real food? NO!!
edible food-like substances? you betcha! Overweight but undernourished cleaning our energy grid There are so many alternative energies out there that fossil fuels are not necessary What are you going to do? Humanity is in our hands Sustainability means using recycled, recyclable, and toxins-free products that don't pollute the environment or our bodies It is time we stop polluting the air and our water, for we are only damaging ourselves.
