What is the meaning of the Puritan "City on a Hill"?
To show everyone else how to live in the way that god wanted.
How does this concept connect to America today?
It was used a number of times in American politics. On January 9, 1961, President John F. Kennedy returned the phrase to prominence during an address delivered to the General Court of Massachusetts.
Why did the puritans think they think they were a City on a hill?
To be an example for the rest of the world in rightful living.
Who wrote the speech/sermon?
John Winthrop wrote the speech to represent irritating Puritan pridefulness because they thought they were perfect.
