CliMates Research Training 2
Transcript of CliMates Research Training 2
To improve the quality of our research
To improve our knowledge about climate change
To increase participation and activity in debates
Creating an innovative research framework based on
Achieving better publications
(form and substance)
But... what is "research"?
Approaching a topic from an innovative angle
Creating knowledge (analyses, studies, interviews etc...)
Why is research fundamental
Because of CliMates' main goal:
finding and implementing innovative solutions to climate change.
=> Difficult to achieve it without research !
Because of CliMates Values...
CliMates gathers students that are
in the subject matter, and trains them, through research, to address and anticipate emerging climate change issues.
This year we have new modalities for Knowledge:
selection of our members
More time to learn about and research a subject
Now that CliMates is a Think
Tank we still are a credible student organization...
we are a think-and-do-tank that thinks before doing.
This year we have new modalities for innovation:
New & original
as a keyword.
Research is used to predict and
limit the effects of climate change.
Solutions can be appropriate
for different places in the world.
The new CliMates value!
Research is beneficial for CliMates!
We are concerned by these topics
and learn how to face them.
Research leads us to work on new subjects and approaches.
Research leads us to stand up as a
constructive youth organization
... ... which tries to bring innovative solutions and avoids indulging in sterile criticism.
As CliMates, what can

The research in CliMates
Be bold and creative!
Our goal is not to imitate experts but to proceed differently from the start.
The CliMates value-added:
We have many different skills, professional experiences and academic backgrounds:
An official partner: Idap
We have to find innovative comprehensive solutions by understanding, clarifying and mixing scientific, economic, social and cultural aspects of climate change and its impacts.
Idap (Idées d'après) is an organization aiming to
develop and experiment practical tools to encourage and facilitate interdisciplinary work within projects like CliMates.
Helping to build interdisciplinary teams

The Research Team has already met with quite a few experts over the past year. Maybe one of them is working in your field of research ?
Who are experts?
Researchers, professors, journalists, politicians, NGO members, community leaders...
All those who have an experience in fighting climate change.
How is the CliMates research organized
Several multicultural, multidisciplinary research groups work in parallel on different
specific CliMates projects.
Research groups have

The 2013 CliMates Training
Each month, there will be one Prezi or other training document about:
An aspect of climate change (either a broad, transversal topic, or very focused on one question)
A methodological point

Quantitative analysis, economic valuation, discourse analysis, community organizing, scientific knowledge, technical skills, sociological view...
We are engineers, physicists, chemists, lawyers, economists, geographers, political scientists, sociologists, etc.
Contributing and exchanging ideas,
Part of research is sharing findings and contributing to the work of others. You're therefore encouraged to
submit posts for the CliMates Blog
or articles for the Press Review.
Please do not hesitate to write to us at
We have also launched transversal, long-term projects, for example on the Unsuspected Climate-Related Trends, which
always welcome occasional contributions.

They also have a

where they represent their research group and participate in shaping the daily life and development of CliMates.

CliMates highlights the benefits of sharing experiences and ideas, and materializes this in a collaborative research system.
This year we have new modalities for collaboration:
students from different academic & cultural backgrounds
collaborating within project teams...
... and different teams collaborating with each other.
collaboration with experts
will also be improved!
CliMates seeks new ways of research and negotiation, inciting ingenuity in solving global issues.
CliMates relies on a highly qualified student network supported by reknowned researchers, enhancing the depth and integrity of CliMates' student solutions publications.

How to do research
Because Climate change is a major environmental problem whose solutions are in a lot of other domains/sectors...

Our research ambitions to help predict and limit the global effects of climate change, and must
