Library Rules
Grades 3-6
Enter quietly and sit in your seat.
If you have a book to return, place it in the Book Drop OR line up by the Circulation Desk to scan your book(s) in. Do NOT place books on the tables, on the floor, or on the book cart unless they have been checked in! Depending on your grade,
wait for instructions from the librarian at Voice Level 0.
Respect the speaker.
Zero voice level when the librarian, teacher or another classmate is presenting something to the class.

If you need assistance, raise your hand.

Do not ask to use the restroom unless it is an EMERGENCY!
Respect library equipment.
No eating or drinking in the library.

No gum in the library.

Take care of books so others can use them too.

Take care of all supplies or equipment.
Use proper checkout procedures.
Use shelf markers when looking for books.

Do not use shelf markers as swords or to hit other people or things.

If you find a book in the wrong place, give it to the librarian so it may be put away properly.

Scan your student I.D. barcode card FIRST and THEN the State Street Library book barcode (on upper right of back cover).
Sit in your assigned seat or area, if directed, and read quietly.
Always use an appropriate voice level for the activity we are doing at the time.
Direct Instruction: Level 0
Silent reading: Level 0
Group work: Level 1
Checkout time: Level 1
No running, pushing, fighting, or horseplay of any kind will be allowed.
Respect one another.
Materials and Equipment
School Chromebooks under librarian supervision/permission.

Chromebooks may be used for searching the library catalog or for educational research when approved by your teacher or librarian.

Chromebooks may NOT be used to play games without teacher or librarian permission.
Computer Use
Always bring your own books back to the library. Books you check out are YOUR responsibility!

Don’t let anyone borrow a book you checked out---instead, come in with your friend and allow him/her to check it out in their name .

If you take your book home, carry it in a backpack. Return it to the backpack after reading.
Always have clean hands when you read.

Do not eat or drink when reading.

Keep books away from small children, pets and sources of water.

Don’t try to repair your book-let the librarian do it.

Always use a bookmark! Don't bend pages down.
Keep up with your books!
1st offense: You will be asked to take a break and return to the group or activity.

2nd offense: You will be asked to take a break and complete a written reflection.

3rd offense: You will be sent to the Office. Your parent or guardian may be called.

MAJOR offense (safety) or disruption of learning : You will be sent to the Office.
What if I don't follow the rules?
Books may be borrowed for 3 weeks.
students borrow books to use
in the classroom only.

Grade 3
one book at a time for school or home
Grades 4-6
may borrow
two books at a time for school or home.

If no one is waiting for the book, you may renew the book once.
Students with overdue, lost, or damaged books will not be able to check out more books until the books have been returned or paid for.
At the end of the school year, your Chromebook (grades 3-6) may be withheld for overdue books.
So......BE RESPONSIBLE with school and library resources!

It is very frustrating to read several books in a series only to find that someone has lost or never returned the next one you need.

If you move, PLEASE return your books to the library before you leave.
