Healthy Life Skills & Relationships
Teen Relationships
Emotional Issues-For the study, the students completed surveys every six months between 9th and 10th grade about the consequences they experienced from sex.

All in all, the teens reported positive consequences, such as pleasure, popularity, and stronger relationships.

But a decent percentage noted negative consequences such as feeling used, getting pregnant, contracting a sexually transmitted infection, or feeling bad about themselves
Respect & Responsibility for self & others
EFFECTS OF VARIOUS RELATIONSHIPS
Healthy and Unhealthy Behaviors in Relationships
Social Stigmas
Teen pregnancy is looked down upon, and this might be the result of being sexual active.

Everyone's opinion on this topic might affect a teen who becomes pregnant in a negative way.

Such as bullying, name calling, & teasing.
POSITIVE
Healthy Behaviors
What is Healthy?
Time apart/together
-
quantity
and
quality
of time we spend together influence the well-being of our relationships.
Money
- How we think and talk about money, our spending habits, and our ability to budget, invest, and plan for the
future
impact couple financial management processes and practices.
Health
- A healthy relationship is important to maintain if you want a
long lasting life
with your partner. Talk about health-related issues, including nutrition, exercise, illness, disease, accidents, health care, mortality, and death.
Men/Women
- Because men tend to be more task-oriented in their
communication styles
and women tend to be more process-oriented, men tend to want to solve issues immediately, while women tend to want to talk about them more and come to a consensus about what should be done.
Family/In-Laws
- Couples often talk about situations and circumstances surrounding the
interactions
they have with their closest relationships.
Commitment
- How we "hang in there" and contribute to our marital friendship, even when things aren't going particularly well, is a sign of how committed we are to our relationship.
Loyalty
and
fidelity
are aspects of commitment and trust.
Trust
- Trusting relationships are relationships in which both partners are
dependable
,
available
to support each other, and responsive to each other's needs. An ability to negotiate conflict and a positive outlook about the future of the relationship are also components of trust.
Intimacy
- The social, intellectual, emotional, spiritual, and physical
connections
we make with each other determine the levels of
intimacy
we experience in our relationships.

Sexual Abstinence
This is choosing to refrain from any sexual activity
Weather its
moral, religious, philosophical,
But if you do choose to be sexually active, there are a few contraceptives you can choose from: Birth control, condoms, and the morning after pill.
NEGATIVE

Confidentiality
This basically says are we giving teens a chance to come and ask for condoms, or etc, or are we saying if your under 16 we have to tell your parents. We better give them confidentiality or they will not ask.
Consequences of Sexual Behaviors
LONG TERM
Respecting others is not only just the golden rule, but it's kindness & courtesy. Even including other people's "private bubble".
For example: not everyone wants to be hugged or touched. Some people like their personal space, and if you invade it they could feel uncomfortable.

Victor William Harris From the U of F States..
"Effective communication is critical to successful relationships. Researchers and therapists have found at least nine skills that can help couples learn to talk effectively about important issues (Gottman 1994; Markman, Stanley, and Blumberg 2010; Schramm and Harris 2011). How we interact about issues such as time spent together/apart, money, health, gender differences, children, family, friends, commitment, trust, and intimacy affects our ability to develop and maintain lasting marital friendships. If learned well, these nine skills can help put our relationships on a positive trajectory for success."

Respecting Yourself
The Eight Contrasts
"The worst loneliness is not to be comfortable with yourself" ~Mark Twain
involves being true to yourself by understanding reality,
learning to handle criticism by not taking it personally,
looking after your appearance because it can change the way we feel about ourselves,
avoiding jealousy because you would definitely lose your own self respect,
and lastly forgive because if your mind is constantly thinking about the past, you will feel guilty and unworthy.
it is saying that even if you have all the friends in the world, you can still feel lonely and separated from the world if you are are putting on a false face or just acting to gain other people's approval.
Studies show that 30% of people who have a healthy life style do not have unhealthy friends.
People who have a powerful influence most likely have a healthy life style.
20% of people use apps and media to track their health and these people

say they have seen an improvement in their health.
Happier people are Healthier.

Healthy Behavior
Communication Skills
Communication is simply the act of transferring information from one place to another, whether this be vocally, written, visually, or non-verbally.

Good communication skills:
Passes information along
makes good relationships
helps you get what you need
helps you think better
makes peaceful communities
Family Finances
Money makes it possible for people to live healthier lives. Healthier food cost more therefore people that can afford to buy healthier food, can buy those foods.
DECISION MAKING
ADDICTIONS & DRUG USE
Before you make the decision to do drugs, and conscientious person would think about the consequences.

"If I do this drug, I might become addicted."

"If I do these drugs, I could get in legal trouble."

Many studies in the past few years have shown that lower amounts of income is linked with poorer health than those with more income.
IMMUNIZATIONS
Immunizations are required for some activities such as, school or sports.
However, for religious purposes, you do/can have the choice to opt out. But, one should think of the health risks for not only them, but their peers if they so chose to not get immunized.
MEDICAL-CHECKUPS
Being short on income can also cause you to work more, and the increase in hours can cause you to become stressed.
Medical- checkups though tedious, can save your life. A simple doctor's appointment once a month could catch any potentially fatal health problems in the early stages and increase your chance of recovering.
ORAL HEALTH
Family History
Oral health is a very important thing to maintain. Mouths are disgusting. Clean them.
"If I don't brush my teeth, they'll rot and fall out."
"If I don't brush my teeth, I won't have friends."
"If I don't have consistent medical- checkups, I could die sooner."
Risks for asthma, diabetes, heart disease, and cancer can be passed down, through genetic, from your family.
"If I don't get immunized, I could get my best friend sick and they'll die."
SEXUAL ACTIVITY
Choosing to partake in an sexual activity is a very important decision. If you decide to have sex you could get pregnant or get your lady friend pregnant or get an STD, which will be apart of your life forever.
In order to find out if you are at risk for any health concerns, talk to your family members and ask them about any health risks that they may have encountered.
"If I have sex, I could have a baby. I can't even take care of myself."
TEEN PREGNANCY
If you get pregnant, there are extremely life altering decisions to be made in a very short period after. You can choose to keep the child and be a teen mom, you can have an abortion, you can give it up for adoption, etc.
"If I have a baby, I won't have free time."

"If I have a baby, I might not finish school"
Even if you don't have health risks that run in your family, you can still be susceptible to disease based on your lifestyle.
Role Models
Role models are important in influencing how you act and behave.
If you look up to a healthy civilian then you are more likely to act like them, and live a healthy life.
If you look up to a non- healthy person, then you are more likely to adopt their unhealthy lifestyle.
One way to help with your family finances, is by creating a budget.
