By: Danny Haverkampf Sociological POV Functionalism Drug use is caused by rapid social change that creates a weakening of social norms to either the group or individual. The rapid change causes anomie, which is a sense of normlessness Recurring stress and role strain all play factors in the decision for the use of drugs. Conflict Drug use is used as a way to escape the feeling of oppression and inequality in a society Highest members of society decide the legality and punishment for drug use Symbolic
Interaction A pleasurable experience during the first use of drugs creates a recurring theme of drug usage The meanings and techniques of drug usage are built around the group around the initial drug user, acceptance and pleasure in drug use makes it more likely for the person to continue Statistics and Data Several media sources provide a strong influence to the meaning of certain drugs Solution to the problem I believe that all drugs should be legalized in order to take money away from crime, create a decline in drug use across the board, and help improve our society. it is proven that this method has cut drug use 50% in Portugal.
The income from the sales of drugs could flow into the economy as a way to narrow the gap between rich and poor.
