Dark Paradise // Lana Del Rey
Lana Del Rey
Background on Lana Del Rey
Elizabeth Woolridge Grant a.k.a Lana Del Rey is a New York based "chamber pop" and "trip hop" stylized singer-songwriter. Her music style is often compared to musicians like Madonna, Brittany Spears, and Katy Perry.

Del Rey's past albums all have reoccuring themes revolving around lost love, death, and relationships.

"Dark Paradise" is a song that touches on the loss of a loved one. Through the song, Del Rey creates a personal story for listeners based on her mourning over her lost significant other.

"Dark Paradise" touches on reoccuring themes of lost love, death, and mourning. Del Rey uses these three key experiences to explain her emotional state at the time.
Theme Statement: "Dark Paradise" by Lana Del Rey explores the loss of a significant other, and the difficulty in overcoming the loss.
Some examples are:
: "Everytime I close my eyes, it's like a dark paradise."
: "All my friends ask me why I stay
, tell 'em when you find true love it loves
: "Your soul is haunting me and telling me that everything is fine"
: "Dark paradise"
: "I'm lying in the ocean, singing your song"
I chose "Dark Paradise" because although it is an upbeat song, Del Rey still manages to capture a deeper meaning through her use of poetic and literary devices. Though many people think of her as just another female artist, her music proves her knowledge in not only music itself, but in culture and literature as well.
