VISION YOUTH LEADERSHIP PROGRAM 2014
Name a leader:
WHAT IS THE OPPOSITE OF A LEADER?
The Leader is only a small part of any movement
We are both
at the same time.
"Now if you notice, the first follower is actually and underestimated form of leadership in itself"
In Vision Youth, leadership is about taking the initiative to work with others towards a common goal. It doesn't matter whether you are the first to lead.
You don't have to be Gandhi (or shirtless dancing guy)
to be a leader.
The first followers leads the other followers, who in turn leads more followers...
So bringing it down to Earth, what does leadership look like?
After a long hike, your team arrives at camp exhausted! You all rest by a tree, though a storm is fore-casted to come in the evening and your team needs to put up a shelter. Unfortunately, noone wants to move.
15 minutes later...
Guys, let's build a shelter before it starts raining
A leader can stand out for an unpopular cause, but it's the right one. But you can't be a leader on your own.
Yeah, we better
Here's the leadership we often overlook: the leader follower who has the initiative to follow and lead.
Leadership = taking action
In different ways, we influence people around us to work towards a common cause. Always strive to lead and follow. Just don't sit around and wait for things to happen.
Do something about it!
Gold 2014 Overview
Leading by example:
After extensive training and selection from the Bronze and Silver programs, Gold Visioneers are ready to take charge and lead by example. They develop the initiative, competency, and tools to inspire and lead others and become a positive force for change in society.
Golds will strive to master new skills for both outdoors survival and for personal and professional development
Golds will take charge of their own development through self-directed planning and new challenges
Golds will be challenged to discover in themselves a sense of greater purpose and drive to better oneself and the community.

Don't expect to be able to benefit from the program just by showing up and going through the motions. We can give you the opportunities to develop, but we can't give you leadership skills. As in any other aspect of your life, you need to seize these opportunities yourself - step up for the challenges - they are the best things VY can give you. The ball's in your court.
