Hand Held Weapons
Mameluke Sword - Used by Marine officers
Bowie Knife - Often Carried by Confederates instead of bayonets
Model 1850 Army Staff & Field Officers' Sword - The regulation officer's sword, though in practice most officers used cavalry sabers.
Bayonets - Used on the end of weapons
Springfield: Model 1861-Most widely used rifle in the Civil War

The French army officer Claude-Etienne Minié invented the bullet in 1849. The Minié bullet, proved lethally accurate over relatively long distances. After the outbreak of the American Civil War in 1861, both Union and Confederate soldiers used the “minnie” bullet (as they called it) in their muzzle-loading rifles.

Remingiton: 1858 model-Common handgun used across both sides
Smith & Wesson: Model 1 & 2-Alternative to the Colt and Remingiton that fired brass cartridges
