Transcript of Expand and Grow You Engraving Business with UV/UV Led Print Technology

of UV/UV LED print technology and how it can complement traditional and unconventional projects in your engraving business.
This seminar will introduce UV/UV-LED printing technology and explain its market advantages over traditional color customization processes.

Learn how complex, full-color logos and artwork can easily be incorporated into projects that sell, by combining UV/UV-LED digital printing technology, engravable substrates and sign hardware.
Once again technology has jumped ahead with the introduction of UV printers.
By now you’re probably used to seeing new processes and techniques come and go in the awards, recognition and signage industry and
you have wondered...
Which ones do I jump into from the get go?
The best way to decide, is to understand how new technology can benefit your business, productivity and profits.
Let’s review where we have been...
and now,
small format
Historically, solvent ink was the traditional type of ink for small format digital printing applications. This ink is comprised of pigment, plus an etching agent which helps ‘etch’ out the media when it has been applied, then an evaporating agent is used that assists in drying out the ink.
How is the UV-LED printing process progessing its technologies?
UV ink-jet printers are similar to solvent or aqueous printers in that they all use a process to make ink adhere to a media.
UV printers use a special formulated ink containing a photo ‘initiator’ that when exposed to UV light converts the ink into a solid polymer and adheres it to the media — a process called ‘curing’.
UV/UV-LED inks are replacing solvent printing for many applications today because they have instantly dry or cure.
UV-LED Printing Benefits
•The UV-curable market withstood the poor economic conditions better than other graphic technologies because of customers’ interest in speed, efficient production and environmental advantages over solvent ink jet .

• UV/UV-LED Inks have instant drying capabilities and have become more flexible in recent years. (Previously, inks used to crack on flexible applications.)

•Many LED lamps in UV/UV-LED printers are long-lasting, safe, energy efficient and generate minimum heat, which eliminates the threat of warp on plastic substrates.

With countless possibilities available, the popularity of color is growing and won’t fade, according to awards retailers and suppliers.

Whether it is a graceful piece of art glass for a hospital or university or a splash of color on a marathoner’s medal, color brings life to recognition pieces and brand equity to corporate awards.
With numerous options for producing high-quality color pieces, color is here to stay in the awards and recognition industry. The challenge lies in retailers bringing their A game when it comes to design creativity and top-notch production.
Print on a far broader range of substrates.
Open the door to a new world of creative

Say goodbye to pre-treating surfaces and
coated papers.

Faster drying time means faster production

You’ll even save on your electricity bill.
Healthier for your workplace and the planet.
Reduces a lot of time-consuming finishing work.
Final printed product is resistant to fading, rubbing, moisture and heat.
Better color saturation on solids and substrates.
Print multiple color layers at the same time.
Now that you have decided to add UV LED printing to your business… how do you know which printer is right for you?
According to Digital Output magazine, UV LED is an emerging technology in graphic arts (September 2012). As with any emerging technology, few products can be found or few are fully developed in the beginning years.
Mimaki, Roland DGA and Direct Color Systems (DCS) are top 3 market leaders in the small format UV digital printing market in the United States/Canada.

Clients are always looking for ways to
incorporate color in their recognition
program to maintain that brand equity.

Many corporate clients now prefer for their logos appear in color.
Clients also are attracted to the
prestige of an engraved sign.
Engraved signs convey a look of quality and class, and signify professionalism in the workplace, and engraved nameplates have become a symbol of prestige among manager and employees.
Lets review the differences and examples of how offering engraved and printed signage can help expand your business.
as a business owner, time
is money, and you could save money by investing in new technology:

A typical customer request:
Can you include my logo?

I would like to incorporate the U.S. Marines logo. Can you show me my options?
downloaded from Brandoftheworld.com
Sixteen minutes to convert colored vector logo into a black and white image ready to be engraved.
With the advancements of UV-LED printing and engraving, you can now offer your customers the best of both worlds.
Color technology updates have changed the rules on production quantities, too.
Sure, every retailer wants a job that is thousands of pieces... but with direct printing today, it’s not prohibitive to produce just a few personalized pieces.

People have always wanted color in awards. What’s new is that today’s enhanced technology options allow retailers to deliver.
we want to be your business partners as you continue to grow and expand your business.
Rowmark and Johnson Plastics understand that technology continues to evolve...
In 2012
Rowmark introduced DigiMark OSi
During the drying process, the liquid parts of the ink evaporate, leaving the pigment in place.
We will also review Rowmark's new, revolutionary DigiMark OSi print receptive acrylic sheet material developed for the small format UV/UV-LED digital printing market.
Screen Printing
Thermal Printing
Heat Transfers/Magic Touch
Hot Stamp
DigiMark OSi features OSi™ (optical surface imaging) technology, meaning that bonding agents don’t have to be applied to the sheet to make the ink adhere and the sheet features an adhesion promoter.
Solvent ink is NOT compatible with DigiMark OSi ™
Benefits for DigiMark OSI™
Optimized for “printing”. Easily cut, laser and rotary engraved. Minimized printed material fracturing during cutting. Outdoor weatherable rated sheets. Offered in Metallic (cutting edge feature in this market).

Can replace screen printing, hot stamping. Screen printing: Alignment issues commonly result from having to manually lay down layers of color.

First and foremost, marketed as a printable sheet material; secondly, it also has the added benefit of being laser/rotary engravable.
Despite all the benefits of this new wave of technology, digital printing and digital printing equipment do not need to be viewed as a replacement for engraving, but rather another option to consider.
Digital printing is especially suited for mass production projects...
Sheets with the printed logo can then be placed in the engraver in your shop to be customized with employee names. Extra printed name badges can also be vector cut in advance, and they’re ready to be engraved as needed. Not only is this process efficient, but it saves resources and labor needed to produce orders and products one-by-one.
Customization is still one of the most competitive benefits that with a digitally printed piece creates a layered, raised and even dimensional look.
in business partners like Johnson Plastics
and Rowmark to offer you cutting edge products to keep you ahead the competition.
The design possibilities are virtually limitless!
speak to you...
and let your originality differentiate
you and grow your business.
The words are engraved, exposing the black core underneath and creating a nice clean look.

The bright bird graphic to the left is digitally printed right on the surface of the metallic cap layer of the plastic substrate.
Seminar 234.
Sounds simple enough, doesn’t it?
But it’s a considerable technological leap that offers some really significant benefits to your awards and sign graphic shop.
Learn how easily the addition of the digital printing process can complement and/or replace old technology, improve your productivity and give you a competitive edge.
This process produces some amount of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), and takes longer to dry; posed inhalation hazards make it less eco-friendly than the newer UV/UV-LED or eco solvent alternatives.
