printing... Historically, solvent ink was the traditional type of ink for small format digital printing applications. This ink is comprised of pigment, plus an etching agent which helps ‘etch’ out the media when it has been applied, then an evaporating agent is used that assists in drying out the ink. How is the UV-LED printing process progessing its technologies? UV ink-jet printers are similar to solvent or aqueous printers in that they all use a process to make ink adhere to a media. UV printers use a special formulated ink containing a photo ‘initiator’ that when exposed to UV light converts the ink into a solid polymer and adheres it to the media — a process called ‘curing’. UV/UV-LED inks are replacing solvent printing for many applications today because they have instantly dry or cure. UV-LED Printing Benefits •The UV-curable market withstood the poor economic conditions better than other graphic technologies because of customers’ interest in speed, efficient production and environmental advantages over solvent ink jet .
