Transcript of Abortion :(

Abortion-is the termination of pregnancy by the removal or expulsion from the uterus of a fetus or embryo prior to viability. It can occur spontaneously, in which case it is usually called a miscarriage, or it can be purposely induced.Abortion is not only known as destruction of the life of an unborn child; it also has a detrimental life changing effect on women.

Induced abortion has a long history and has been facilitated by various methods including abortion pills, the use of sharpened tools, physical trauma, and other traditional methods. Contemporary medicine utilizes medications and surgical procedures to induce abortion. The legality, cultural and religious status of abortion vary substantially around the world. Its legality can depend on specific conditions such as: rape, fetal defects, etc..

In accordance with the local laws of developed countries, induced abortion in accordance with local law, is among the safest procedures in medicine. However, unsafe abortions result in approximately 70,000 maternal deaths and 5 million hospital admissions per year globally. An estimated 44 million abortions are performed globally each year, with slightly under half of those performed unsafely.
After an abortion many women report feelings of loneliness, sadness, guilt, grief, anger,
depression, nightmares, flashbacks, increased drug or alcohol abuse, suicidal thoughts,
and other destructive behaviors such as eating disorders. In fact, these symptoms are
referred to as post abortion syndrome.

What leads women to abortion:
Most young women that have an unplanned pregnancy develop a fear to what might happen to their future. Some teenage mothers are even forced by their own parents to have an abortion or suffer by being homeless. Depending on the father, he might either beg her not to have an abortion, or threaten by leaving his pregnant mate. All these problems that unprepared mothers face lead them to abortion.
The Procedures
There are plenty different procedures for abortions all gruesome and pain inflicting not only on the fetus, but most especially on the mother causing them to have traumatic experiences.
Different TYPES of Abortion:
Spontaneous Abortion
Induced or Elective Abortion
*Abortion caused intentionally by the administration of drugs or by mechanical means.
* aborting a baby through your own will
* loss of a fetus before the 20th week of pregnancy. (Pregnancy losses after the 20th week are called preterm deliveries.)
* This refers to naturally occurring events, not to medical abortions or surgical abortions.
induced termination of a pregnancy (TOP), usually before the fetus has developed enough to live if born, deemed necessary by the woman carrying it and performed at her request.
When the procedure is started, the woman's cervix is widen. Once the cervix has been widen to the necessary width, a cannula is inserted into the uterus.
Then with a long sharp tip of the cannula, scrape the walls of the uterus, force out the fetus and placenta. The baby, placenta and amniotic fluid are sucked in through the cannula to a collection jar. They are examined to ensure that all the body parts and placenta have been removed from the woman uterus.
Suction Aspiration(Vacuum Aspiration)
Most common abortion performed between 6 and 15 weeks of pregnancy
By: Jia, Paola, and Gretchen.
Incomplete abortion is a common complication, especially if the procedure is rushed. Another complication happens when the abortionist moves too far into the womb and perforates the uterus or even the bowel. Surgery may be required to repair such an injury.
Therapeutic abortion
Termination of pregnancy when the mother's health in jeopardy.

- high blood pressure
-severe bleeding
- abnormal fetus
Incomplete Abortion
When parts of the baby products still remain in the womb and needs intervention.
-abnormality of the child
-teen pregnancy
We chose abortion because it impacts people in a negative or positive way. It also give young mothers the choice to wich path they are willing to take. We reflected it to Faith vs Skepticism. For faith, it is when the women are in agreement with abortion, usually because of the mothers illness etc..
Complications for Suction Aspiration:
Methods of Abortion
- aborting by the use of medicines by either drinking or pills. ex: concentrated bitter-melon drink and mifepristone
-commonly practiced in poor countries.
-being performed with a vigorous massage of the woman's lower abdomen to squeeze the fetus.
- an invasive procedure that involves entering the woman's womb by the use of abortive device such as forceps and speculums.
