The purpose of this presentation is to inform you on how the members of the 7 functional groups are applied to our everyday life.

These functional groups are:
1. Hydroxyl
2. Carbonyl
3. Carboxyl
4. Sulfyhydryl
5. Amino
6. Methyl
7. Phosphate
Product #2: Carbonyl Group
Carbonyl groups are fairly common in some aspects of our life. Compounds containing the ketone or aldehyde functional group are important in organic chemistry. Useful methods for preparation of ketones include the coupling of acid chlorides with organocopper reagents and the hydration of alkynes. Aldehydes can be prepared by reduction of acid chlorides with certain metal hydrides.
Product #3: Carboxyl Group
There are numerous items in the home that may contain carboxyl groups. Carboxyl groups, or COOH, contain substances referred to as carboxylic acids. A type of carboxylic acid is found in medicines and vitamins, such as vitamin C. Vitamin C contains ascorbic acid, which is why it is so important to maintain a diet that includes it. This acid's main function is to promote muscle growth.
Product #4: Sulfhydryl Group
Sulfhydryl groups (SH) can be put into a larger class referred to as thiols, which are commonly found in beer or wine coolers. Thiols can also be found in eggs, which is why eggs have a foul smell after they become rotten. oxygen-to-carbon-bond configurations gives many high-velocity thiols a persistant and unpleasant smell.
Product #4: Methyl Groups
The term methyl groups refers to a chemical structure with only one carbon atom and three hydrogen atoms. Methyl groups are found in foods with vitamin B, otherwise known as choline. Foods with high choline levels are good for growth; it reduces chronic inflammation and prevents the build-up of harmful toxins in the bloodstream. Results of inefficient levels of choline include fatigue, insomnia, osteoporosis, and death.
Water contains numerous hydroxyl groups, or OH-, and is definitely an item that is necessary for everyday life. We use water to bathe in, for entertainment, and to drink. Water is also important because of the impacts it has on agriculture and civilizations.
Product #1: Hydroxyl Group
Product #5: Amino Groups
Amino groups (NH2) are often found in amino acids and are used as protein synthesizers. Personal care products or household cleaning products may contain amine compounds. Restaurants, hospitals and hotels using cleaning and sanitizing agents.
Product #7: Phosphate Groups
Phosphorus (PO4) is a nutrient vital to human, animal, and plant life. It is one of the most common substances in our environment, naturally occurring in our food, our water and our bodies. In your body, phosphorus is present in your genes, your teeth, and your bones -- even your muscles work because of the phosphorus in adenosine triphosphate.
Dicalcium phosphate is used as a polishing agent in toothpaste, and tricalcium phosphate is the conditioning agent in salt that keeps it flowing freely.
