Getting to the Core of
Why We Do What We Do

MY Core Beliefs
Create your list of 5 or 6 beliefs and share within your group.
My Personal Coaching Manifesto
•Write the body of your manifesto by turning the introspection on your personal statements into explicit, concrete beliefs and goals. For example, if you wrote, "I believe all people deserve to be loved," and upon considering it, you found you are not always as loving as you should be, you could write "I believe all people deserve to be loved, and that loving every person means listening and showing compassion to everyone I meet."
Often our email signatures reflect ideas or ideals that we believe in. Write imaginary email signatures for these people.
“I honestly think it is better to be a failure at something you love than to be a success at something you hate.”
George Burns
If love is the answer, could you rephrase the question?
Lily Tomlin
Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again,
this time more intelligently.
Henry Ford
Take the first step in faith. You don’t have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step.
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
A day without sunshine is like...you know,
night.
Steve Martin
Yeah we all shine on, like the moon, and the stars, and the sun.
John Lennon
Not all who wander are lost.
J.R.R. Tolkien
I'm an idealist. I don't know where I'm going, but I'm on my way.
Carl Sandburg
There cannot be a crisis next week. My schedule is already full.
Henry Kissinger

Do these beliefs truly underpin the way I operate
as a coach/ as an educator/ as a colleague?
Reflecting on MY Core Beliefs
Which 5 or 6 best represent my own beliefs?
What are the core values that lie beneath these beliefs?
Why are each of these beliefs so important to me?
•Look at the example from Aguilera
•Decide what you think the clearest theme coming through in the brainstorming is and write an opening sentence encapsulating that theme. For example, it could say, "It is our duty to leave the world a more loving place than we found it."
