The Notes and coins
There are 8 different types of notes-the 5,10,20,50,100,200,500 and 1000 dirham.The coins are 1 dirham and 5,25,and 50 fils.
The dirham was introduced on the 19th of May 1973,and replaced a type of currency called the Qatar and Dubai Riyal which was used in all the Emirates except Abu Dhabi,where the Dirham replaced the Bahraini dinar
