Miss Jessie's Curly Pudding Curl Pattern Ones curl pattern refers to the amount of wave or curl in ones hair, and is divided into a hair typing chart listed below: Ones porosity refers to how easily the hair is able to absorb and lock in moisture. Knowing the porosity of your hair will help one choose the right product; leaving the hair strong, shiny, and moisturized. There are two different classifications of porosity:

Hair that belongs in this category has tightly bound cuticle layers with overlapping scales that lay flat. Low porosity hair is also prone to build up and repels moisture when wet making it hard to process because it is resistant to the penetration of chemicals.

Having high porosity can be hereditary/ result of damage from chemical processing/ environmental damage. Highly porous hair tends to have more damage due to the amount of moisture it absorbs.

Many naturals use Cherry Lola treatments, a process that temporarily alters ones porosity. Cherry Lola Treatment Length The length of ones hair determines which products should be used as well as how they should be applied. Length also helps a fellow natural with choosing styles and tools to target the style one wants to achieve. Styling can also be hard for new naturals with big chops. A big chop is when one cuts of all permed/ relaxed hair as well as damaged natural hair, leaving freshly grown natural hair exposed. As well as naturals who have TWAs "teenie weenie afros". Big Chop TWA Width The width of hair refers to the thickness of a single strand of hair, ranging from fine to coarse. Having knowledge of the width of ones hairs can help one retain length as well as progressing the health of his/her hair. Fine Medium Coarse Density Density refers how close each individual strand is packed together on the scalp, ranging from low to high. Being knowledgeable of ones density will help with choosing the right product as well as a style that will help maintain volume.
