How do we motivate people working on business-as-usual teams who have no sense of achievement? "too many cooks" Changes to structure are difficult and take a while to do No sense of achievement comes from no sense of what better is First, "What's the actual problem?" Product Owner comes before setting up product teams Rotate people betwen project and BAU teams Cycle times Defect rates Setup improvement cadence daily monthly / quarterly weekly / fortnightly output too low can't make date "slow decision making" Determine criteria for a good decision *before* making the decision Like Test-first decision making Decision rules Decision authority Always be prepared with an answer just in case the team doesn't come up with one don't make me think mastery problem, not autonomy problem
